Two of the Eastern Conferences juggernauts face off tonight. The Carolina Hurricanes head to Canada to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs. This is the first of three meetings between the two teams this season.
Toronto is 8-6-1 to start the year and currently fifth in the Atlantic Division. They come into this game off a loss Saturday to the Bruins by a score of 5-3. The Leafs are 5-4-1 in their last ten games and a solid 7-3-1 at home so far.
The Leafs are definitely more comfortable at home this season. The team said goodbye to forward and core team member Mitch Marner in the offseason. It was a relationship that had hit the end and was time to part ways.
There is no shortage on offense with this team. William Nylander, John Taveres and Matthew Knies are off to hot starts, all with 18+ points already. Auston Matthews is off to a slower start, but has tallied 8 goals, so not too shabby.
Goalie Dennis Hildeby will get his first start tonight. The kid has come in in two different games as a reliver. He has a 1.82 GAA with a .950 save percentage in the action he has seen.

Canes look to make it four in a row tonight in Toronto

Hurricanes goaltender Frederik Andersen makes a save against the Leafs last season.
The Canes are 10-4-0 this season and are 3rd in the Metro Division. They come into this game on a three-game winning streak after a win over the Sabres on Saturday. Carolina is 6-4-0 in their last ten games and 5-3-0 on the road.
Offense has always been a strong point for the Canes as well. They rank fourth in the league for goals scored and third in shots on goal per game. Carolina needs to work on their power play though; it’s third worst in the league.
Locking down on defense has always been a strong point for the Hurricanes over the years. They have continued that this season, ranking in the top ten for goals allowed and eleventh for shots on goal allowed per game. Their penalty kill also ranks in the top ten of the league.
Goalie Frederik Andersen is set to get the start. He’s 5-3-0 this season with a 2.96 GAA and a .892 save percentage. Let’s check out the odds and get into the Hurricanes vs. Leafs picks.

I like for the Canes to keep it going. We should see an action-packed game with some scoring. Toronto should be able to get a few in, but Carolina should really be able to take advantage of this new goalie.
Obviously, I’m hinting to the over as well, but the Canes should control this game. I think they take a first period lead and not look back while the Leafs try to crawl back. In the end, the Carolina defense should be the difference maker here.
For a prop, I like Nikolaj Ehlers to record a point for -132. I think we see goals from the Canes and he has had one in all three wins of this win streak. Newest addition to this team and deadly on offense. Playing second line and first power play unit as well.
Another play I’m sprinkling is William Nylander for 2 or more points for +168. My man has been on an absolute tear, hitting in his last two out of three. He’s got six points in his last three games and on fire this season.
