Today’s slate is extra juicy, and we’re headed to the state where everything is better. The Philadelphia Flyers will face the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Arena. This is the first of two matchups between the two this year.
Philly is 9-5-3 to start the season and fifth in the Metro Division. They come into this game off a win over the Blues last night in a shootout. The Flyers are 6-2-2 in their last ten games and 3-2-1 on the road.
Last night was an absolute barn burner in St. Louis. The Flyers came back down from two in the third period to force overtime. They secured the win with the only shootout goal scored by Trevor Zegras…and it was a pretty one too.
This team’s offense ranks in the bottom of the league for goals scored and shots on goal per game. Their shooting percentage and power play conversion are middle of the road. But either way with the stats, they’re finding ways to win and that’s what matters.
Other than committing a lot of penalties, the Flyers defense is good. They rank sixth in goals allowed and third in shots on goal allowed per game. Philly also has the second-best penalty kill in the league. Goalie Dan Vladar is expected to start. He has a 6-3-1 record with a 2.15 GAA and a .919 save percentage.

Dallas will try to make it five in a row at home tonight vs. Philly

Dallas Stars goalie Jake Oettinger makes a save vs the Flyers last season.
The Stars are 11-4-3 so far and second in the Central Division. They come in off a fat win over the Canadiens on Thursday by a score of 7-0. Dallas is 7-1-2 in their last ten games and are 5-3-1 at home this season.
It was an offensive explosion last game, as well as a solid defensive performance. Jason Robertson led the team with two of the seven goals and Casey DeSmith got the shutout victory.
Offensively and defensively, the Stars put enough together to get it done. They rank in the middle of the league for goals scored and goals allowed per game. Their power play is one of the best in the league, but their penalty kill is one of the worst.
Goalie Jake Oettinger is expected to be in net. He is 7-3-2 this season with a 2.89 GAA and a .896 save percentage. Let’s check out the odds and get into the Flyers vs. Stars picks.

With all those goals Dallas and Philly each just scored, I wouldn’t be surprised to see just a few tonight. Both teams exploded in their last games, and I like for them to come back down-to-earth tonight. Give me the under 5.5 goals for almost even money.
I think the Stars win this game and make it five in a row and in boring fashion. We should see some goals from the Stars, but I think they squash the Flyers offense and possibly shut them out. This is the second game of a back-to-back for Philly too.
Give me Mikko Rantanen to get 3 or more shots on goal for -120. He is an absolute sniper who has hit in his last three games in a row. Rantanen came over last year in a trade from Carolina and has found his new home.
