We’re back for the second game of a home-at-home between the New Jersey Devils and the Colorado Avalanche. Saturday’s game was a barn burner, with the Devils winning 4-3 in overtime. Tonight, should be another banger.
New Jersey is 8-1-0 and off to a hot start. They started the scoring, but the Avs tied it up for a 2-2 score at the end of the first period. They Devils took the lead in the second period, but Colorado tied it up in the third to force overtime, where Jack Hughes won the game.
The Devils are on an eight-game winning streak after losing their first game of the season. They’re a perfect 5-0-0 at home and 3-1-0 on the road. Tonight, will be a big test for this win streak to beat the Avs on the road.
Goalie Jacob Markstrom is expected to get the start. He is 2-1-0 this season with a 3.88 GAA and a .845 save percentage. New Jersey will make Colorado adjust to a new goaltender.

Colorado needs to start finishing games with four overtime losses

Avalanche winger Artturi Lehkonen skates into the offensive zone.
The Avs are 5-1-4 this season and need to turn it around. It’s better that they keep losing in overtime, so they at least get a point, but this is not like them. It’s just a matter of time though until they get it together and finish games.
Colorado is on a four-game losing streak and look to break it at home tonight. Three of four of those loses came in overtime or even shootout loses. It’s very out of character for this team to keep losing games at the end.
The offense has been firing though. Nathan MacKinnon and Martin Necas lead the team with Artturi Lehkonen and Cale Makar right alongside. All four players have 11 or more points to start the season.
Goalie Scott Wedgewood is expected to get the start. He is 5-1-2 this season with a 2.42 GAA and a .904 save percentage. Let’s check out the odds and get into the Devils vs. Avalanche picks.

I’m riding with the hot hand, especially for plus chicken. This team is playing out of their minds right now and with the way the Avs are having trouble finishing games, it makes me lean more to the Devils. We should see another action-packed game though.
New Jersey just has to bring it offensively. If they can continue to score the way they have been, they’ll just need to protect their goalie a little bit. I see them getting out to an early lead but keeping it this time. From there, I think the Avs play catch up but not grab the lead.
I like Nathan MacKinnon to continue firing and get 4 or more shots on goal for -130. He just got it last game, and I see him playing more comfortable at home. MacKinnon has also hit in four of his last five games, including two games with 8 shots on goal.
Also give me Valeri Nichushkin for 3 or more shots on goal for +112. First off, it’s plus money and second, the guy has hit in his last three games. Nichushkin is a known snipper who will be ripping puck as the Avs try to find a win.
