NHL: Capitals vs. Rangers Picks and Odds | October 12, 2025

Dylan Strome and Igor Shesterkin

We have one game on the board today, so you know we had to cover it. The Washington Capitals continue their metro area trip to MSG to take on the New York Rangers. Both teams are coming off nice wins last night.

The Rangers are 2-1-0 so far and are coming in off a 6-1 win over the Penguins in Pittsburgh. They lost their season opener to the Pens at home, so this was a nice get back for them. New York played a good all-around game to get that win.

Shesterkin saves 18 of the 19 shots he faced. The Rangers were able to clamp down on the Penguins and hold their shot count down. New York also fired the puck and had 30 total shots in the game. They also pounded on Pitt with 30 hits vs. 14 hits.

New York looked decent on the power play, going 2-4 and great on the penalty kill holding the Pens to 0-4. These are the things they’ll need to do vs. the Capitals tonight to continuing the winning. Oh, and hold down that guy names Ovechkin.

Capitals coming off nice win, but still room to improve

Alex Ovechkin

Washington Capitals winger and legend Alex Ovechkin celebrates his record setting goal last season.

The Capitals are 1-1-0 to start the season and come off a 4-2 win over the Islanders last night. They were out played in most points of the game from shots to hits but put four goals in through two periods and that was enough.

Aliaksei Protas had two of the goals, one coming in the first period and the other in the second. Martin Fehervary and Ryan Leonard each had one goal each and their firsts on the season.

Otherwise, the Islanders out played the Capitals. The Rangers should give an even bigger test, especially after scoring 6 goals yesterday. Washington will need to bring the offense and get physical this game to win.

Since it is a back-to-back for both teams, we are likely to see Charlie Lindgren and Jonathan Quick, who will both be making their season debuts. Let’s check out the odds and get into the Capitals vs. Rangers picks.

I’m going with the old reverse here and fading goals. Between the two teams, they scored a combo of 10 goals combined. We are also about to see two fresh goalies who have been waiting to play with two teams on the second game of a back-to-back.

The Rangers have seen help from their second and third lines. Vincent Trocheck missed last game and looking like he’ll miss this game. New York will look for the second and third lines continuing to contribute.

Washington has seen some of the same with guys like Ovechkin, Strome and McMichael yet to have an impact. This could be a good game for them to get going, even if it’s on the power play. I still think we see both offenses struggle to a degree and the total go under.

We’re going to take Jonathan Quick for 26 or more saves for -130. He had a solid season last year for the Rangers and I think we see him start sharp. The Capitals had 29 shots last night and could come out firing the puck, at least they’ll need to.
