It’s a big slate this Saturday, so let’s get started early. The St. Louis Blues head to Long Island to take on the New York Islanders. This is the first of two meetings between the two teams this season.
The Islanders are 12-7-2 so far this year and are third in the Metro Division. They come into this game on a two-game winning streak after a shutout win over the Red Wings on Thursday. New York just completed a seven-game road trip and went 6-1-0 and are 7-2-1 in their last ten games.
New York is 4-3-1 at home this season, but love being at UBS. I think they bring in some momentum because they love to get the crowd going. Forward Bo Horvat leads in the league with 14 goals and Matthew Schaefer leads defensemen with 7 goals.
This team has eight players with 10 or more points and five players with 15 or more points. The offense is clicking this year for New York, and the team is excited to play. Getting that number one pick and drafting Schaefer has been all the team could’ve hoped for.
Goalie Ilya Sorokin is expected to start. He is 7-5-2 this season, but 4-1-0 in this last five games. Sorokin has a 2.71 GAA and a .905 save percentage and has finally found his groove. This is exactly what the Islanders needed.

St. Louis tries to break a four-game losing streak tonight at UBS Arena

Blues forward Rob Thomas and goalie Jordan Binnington celebrate after winning a game.
The Blues are 6-9-6 this season and seventh in the Central Division. They come into this game on a four-game losing streak after a loss to the Flyers in overtime on Thursday. St. Louis is 3-3-4 in their last ten games and 3-4-2 on the road.
This team is struggling to find offense. They rank in the bottom of the league for goals scored and shots on goal per game. The Blues do have a decent power play that ranks seventh best in the league.
Defensively, they have been leaky in net. They rank last in the league for goals allowed and eighteenth in shots on goal allowed per game. St. Louis plays smart hockey at least, only committing a little over three penalties per game on average. It’s good for them because their penalty kill ranks in the bottom of the league.
In net, we’re expected to see Jordan Binnington. He is 4-5-4 this season with a 3.30 GAA and a .872 save percentage. Let’s check out the odds and get into the Blues vs. Islanders picks.

I like for the Islanders to stay hot. Coming back home after this long stretch is going to be huge for them as they love the home crowd. Their offense should be packing a huge punch and get on top of the Blues defense.
This should be a fast-paced game from the Islanders. That is definitely new for them as they normal are slow and as a lot like to say, “play boring hockey”. I also really like how Sorokin looks as of late and this offense shouldn’t test him too much.
I like for Bo Horvat to keep the scoring going. His anytime goal is +155 and that’s a solid number for a guy scoring like him. Just like the rest of the team, he loves playing at UBS in front of the fans, so I expect to see him buzzing.
Another play I like is Jordan Binnington to get over his saves line. It should come out around 28 saves once confirmed, but I think the Isles pepper him. New York averages almost 29 shots per game, but should fire over 30 in this game.
