Tonight, St. Louis will play its second game of a back-to-back. The Chicago Blackhawks will take on the St. Louis Blues at the Enterprise Center tonight. These two teams faced off back in October and the Blackhawks won 8-3.

Chicago is 13-11-6 this season and fourth in the Central Division. They come into this game off a home win last night vs. the Rangers by a score of 3-0. The Hawks are 3-5-2 in their last ten games, 6-6-3 on the road and 2-3-1 in divisional games.

The team isn’t the most exciting but are showing signs on life during this rebuild. Third year forward and former number one pick Connor Bedard is having a hell of a start. Bedard has 19 goals and 23 assists which is two thirds of the way to last year’s point total and we’re not even at the all-star break.

They definitely need to improve on defense. Chicago ranks sixteenth in goals allowed but are in the bottom of the league for shots on goal allowed. Their special teams are pretty good on both ends of the ice. They rank tenth in power play conversion and sixth in penalty kill.

Goaltender Spencer Knight is expected to get the start. He is 10-6-5 this season with a 2.50 GAA and a .916 save percentage. Keep an eye out here because Soderblom could get the start on the second game of this back-to-back.

St. Louis looks to break two game losing streak tonight at home

The Blues are 11-14-7 this year and seventh in the Central Division. They come into this game on a two-game losing streak after a loss last night to the Predators. St. Louis is 4-5-1 in their last ten games, 5-7-4 at home and 2-4-0 in divisional matchups.

Their offense is terrible this season, ranking in the bottom of the league for goals scored and shots on goal per game. They don’t have a good shoot percentage and rank in the middle of the league for power play conversion. This team is short star players to really make that difference.

It’s not much brighter on defense. They rank sixteenth for shots on goal allowed but are second worst in goals allowed per game. Unlike their power play, St. Louis struggles on the penalty kill but plays smart hockey and doesn’t commit many penalties per game.

To my surprise, I liked the way the Blackhawks looked the other night. This should be a layup for them with the struggles the Blues have been having. I don’t know if they’ll out up 8 again on them, but for even money give me the road team.

Chicago has been really showing some better hockey this year. They’re not the most dangerous offensive team, but they can get the job done. The Blackhawks are coming off such a solid win and will carry the momentum.

Going up against a mediocre goalie at best, I like Bedard to have himself a game. I’ll be taking his 3 or more shots on goal, 2 or more points and sprinkling on the anytime goal. He’s coming off a game with a goal and has scored in five of his last seven games.

I like the total to go under here. Both offenses struggle and aren’t the best. The sub-par goaltending should be enough to keep the score under the 5.5 goals. I think we see a boring 2-1 or 3-1 victory by the Hawks.
