Before the teams were drafted, I had Team McDavid winning the entire tournament. Even though that might not necessarily be the case now that I know who’s teaming up with whom, I still do like them winning this matchup.

It’s just hard to doubt Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, who’ve been the NHL’s best duo in the last few seasons. They’re already dangerous on their own, but now they get to play with David Pastrnak and Sam Reinhart, who’ve combined for 70 goals this season. They also have Sergei Bobrovsky and Connor Hellebuyck between the pipes — two Vezina Trophy-winning netminders.
Don’t get me wrong, Nathan MacKinnon has assembled a solid roster that includes the likes of Cale Makar, Sidney Crosby, and Kirill Kraprizov. Having said that, I get less excited when I see names like Tom Wilson, Elias Lindholm, and Oliver Bjorkstrand. They’re far from bad players, however, their combined 34 goals is fewer than Reinhart has on his own (37).
It’ll be an exciting contest, however, Team McDavid has more than enough talent to prevail.

NHL All-Star Game #2: Team Hughes vs. Team Matthews

- Total: Over 11.5 Goals (-125) | Under 11.5 Goals (-104)
In the second NHL All-Star Game, Team Hughes clashes with the fan-favorite Team Matthews. Even though Auston Matthews & Co. have the home crowd’s support, I won’t be too shocked if Quinn Hughes’ squad emerges victorious.
Yes, Team Matthews has four Maple Leafs on the roster, but Team Hughes also oozes with chemistry. Hughes, Elias Pettersson, Brock Boeser, and J.T. Miller are all Canucks teammates and a key reason why their team is tied for first in the NHL. They’re also joined by new Vancouver teammate Elias Lindholm, as well as goaltender Thatcher Demko. That’s without mentioning how Brady Tkachuk was teammates with Hughes in the U.S. National Team Development Program.
Team Matthews is talented, but Team Hughes also rosters six 20-goal scorers compared to the former’s five. It’ll be a close game, but chemistry gives Team Hughes the edge this time around.

Although odds aren’t available since the finals matchup is unknown, I’m backing Team Hughes to win the entire tournament. Chemistry like theirs can’t be duplicated and I fully expect it to pay off in a 3-on-3 setting.
