Florida Panthers vs Toronto Maple Leafs: NHL Odds & Best Bets (5/7)

Brad Marchand has six assists but no goals in the postseason

We are back in Toronto for Game 2 as the Maple Leafs host the Florida Panthers tonight. Game 1 blessed us with a nine goal thriller, as the hosts were able to take the first matchup of this series. The two teams combined for 59 shots on goal and brought quite the show to the fans in attendance and watching worldwide.

The Leafs opened things up just 33 seconds into the game with William Nylander netting his 4th goal of the playoffs. He followed that up with his 2nd of the game just 13 minutes later to extend the Leafs’ lead to 2-0. The Panthers got one back from Seth Jones on a power play, but Toronto snuck in another from Morgan Reilly before the end of the period. The 2nd period was much less exciting as we saw just one goal from our hosts, extending their lead to 4-1.

But then the Panthers came out firing. Florida opened the 3rd period with a goal just over 90 seconds in from Eetu Luostarinen. Uvis Balinskis got another one back for the Ice Cats three minutes later, and Florida found themselves down just one goal with 15 minutes to play. However, Matthew Knies gave the Maple Leafs some cushion with six minutes to go, and Sam Bennett’s last minute effort was too late, as Toronto was victorious, winning 5-4.

Tonight will we see the same excitement like we did in Game 1? As a hockey fan, I sure hope so.

I bet on the Panthers in Game 1, and it didn’t work out. However, I do lean with them to at least steal one on the road before heading back to Sunrise. The Panthers still lead the overall season series 3-2, and they’ve already won a game in Toronto this year. Despite allowed five goals from the hosts, Florida successfully killed all five of Toronto’s power play opportunities as well. Florida was a Top 10 team this year in PK%, but the Leafs were also Top 10 in PP%. Surely they are able to take advantage of at least one or two tonight.

We’re going right back to the Ice Cats. Sergei Bobrovsky had arguably his worst outing of the playoffs in Game 1. I don’t think that happens again. Plus, the Panthers ripped 29 shots on net, and I trust their defense to adjust and limit the Leafs’ chances in this second game.

The Panthers killed all five power plays in Game 1, and are killing over 91% this postseason so far. Florida plays aggressive, are very sound defensively, and have Bob between the posts. They are in great shape. As for the Leafs, not only are they in a huge spot for a classic Leafs’ meltdown, they’ll also be without Anthony Stolarz, as Joseph Woll will be their starter.

Things took a bad turn when Stolarz left Game 1, and I could see the Ice Cats taking full advantage of facing a back up keeper. Give me the Panthers to get the job done in 60 minutes tonight.
