There’s a battle on Long Island for some pre-turkey hockey. The Boston Bruins are in town to take on the New York Islanders. These two teams faced off earlier this month, and the Bruins won 4-3 in a shootout.
New York is 13-8-2 to start the season and 3rd in the Metro Division. They come into this game off a shootout win over the Kraken on Sunday. The Islanders are 7-3-0 in their last ten games and are 5-4-1 at home.
The Islanders are shooting a lot, ranking twelfth in the league, but only averaging three goals per game, ranking twentieth. An area the Islanders have struggled in for years and continue to today is the power play. They have the worst power play in the league yet again.
Defense has been stepping up on this team. They rank tenth in goals allowed and eighteenth shots on goal allowed per game. New York is at least better on the penalty, ranking ninth, killing of 83% of the five penalties they commit on average per game.
Goaltender Ilya Sorokin will be in net. He is 7-6-2 this year with a 2.67 GAA and a .905 save percentage. Sorokin is 2-2-1 in his last five starts vs the Bruins with a 3.35 GAA and .876 save percentage.

Boston will try to steal another game at UBS Arena tonight

Islanders defenseman Adam Pelech tries to get in front of the puck while Bruins forward Elias Lindholm tries to screen the Islanders goalie.
The Bruins are 13-11-0 this year and fourth in the Atlantic Division. They come into this game off a loss to the Sharks on Sunday. Boston is 6-4-0 in their last ten games and are 5-7-0 on the road.
A big shift came to this team last year when they parted ways with long time Bruin Brad Marchand. They have yet to name another captain, but the team is primarily led by David Pastrnak and Charlie Coyle. The emergence of Morgan Geekie and Pavel Zacha have been huge.
Their offense isn’t terrible, ranking sixteenth in goals scored and nineteenth in shots on goal per game. Boston has shoots 11% and has the fourth best power play in the league. This offense has to carry this team with the lack of defense.
Defensively, they’re a disaster. They rank in the bottom of the league for goals allowed and shots on goal allowed per game. Goalie Jeremy Swayman is getting the start. He is 9-6-0 this season with a 2.79 GAA and a .909 save percentage.

I know it’s juiced again, but I like the Islanders again. They haven’t been the best at home, but if they can score some goals tonight then they should win this game. Boston and Swayman have been leaky all season and the Islanders offense is due for a bounce back after last game.
I also like New York’s defense to reign in the Boston offense. Pastrnak will be the biggest threat, but don’t sleep on Geekie who is having himself a season. Both teams play sloppy hockey, so we should see some power plays. Could be a good look for the over, wink wink.
Last game between these two, the Islanders went off shooting. I like Horvat for 4 or more shots on goal and I like Barzal and Schaefer for 3 or more shots on goal. All three spots are -122 or better with Bo being plus money.
The other play I like is for Jeremy Swayman to record 26 or more saves for -120. The guy got pepper last time, seeing 33 shots and allowing 3 in. We should see more of the same from the Islanders, and this should clear easily.
