Super Bowl Odds: Could Saquon on the Madden Cover Mean Trouble for Eagles?

Barkley and the Eagles are the betting favorite for this year's Super Bowl

I understand we are in the middle of the summer, but it’s never too early to talk about football, especially with the Madden cover being released with none other than Saquon Barkley of the Philadelphia Eagles on this year’s edition. Let’s take a look at the current Super Bowl Odds and see whether the Madden Cover Curse could catch up with our defending champions.

Saquon Hurdles His Way to Madden Cover

Saquon and the Eagles look to repeat as Super Bowl Champions

Saquon Barkley is on this year’s Madden cover after hurdling an opponent last season

Rightfully so, Saquon made his way onto the Madden NFL 26 cover. This year’s edition of the game is set for release on August 14th, 2025, just as the preseason is wrapping up. But will we see the curse continue and impact the defending champion’s season?

Essentially whomever has been on the cover of the game over the past two decades has been the victim of a decline in performance or some sort of injury during that season. However the curse may be losing power. Last season, Christian McCaffrey was on the cover, and he was obviously cursed, sidelined with an injury for nearly the entire year.

Prior to that, Josh Allen, Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes (x2) and Lamar Jackson have all graced the cover and avoided the curse, but other stars like Antonio Brown, Peyton Hillis, Drew Brees and Brett Farve all felt the impact from the football gods.

Does that continue with the Eagles and their quest for a Super Bowl repeat?

Odds to Win Super Bowl

  • Philadelphia Eagles +650
  • Buffalo Bills +700
  • Kansas City Chiefs +700
  • Baltimore Ravens +775
  • Detroit Lions +800
  • Los Angeles Rams +1600
  • Green Bay Packers +1800
  • San Francisco 49ers +1800
  • Washington Commanders +1800
  • Cincinnati Bengals +2000

After the top 10, there is quite the fall off, but the Eagles remain the betting favorite to repeat as Super Bowl Champions. In order to find the team that signed Aaron Rodgers, you’ve got to get into the 40-1 range. They are bringing back the same core and no one in the NFC significantly improved this offseason. It certainly makes sense for them to be the betting favorite.

Philly is also the second biggest favorite to win their division, only behind the Buffalo Bills who are (-250) to win the AFC East.

Odds to Win NFC East Division

  • Eagles -160
  • Commanders +240
  • Cowboys +550
  • Giants +2200

The Commanders certainly showed some life last season, but I’m not sure it will be enough to overtake Philly for the top of this division. The NFC East is the Eagles’ to lose, and at this point, so is the Super Bowl.
