Even though unpredictability is what makes sports a unique watching experience, some NFL fans are convinced that the league is scripted. Almost like professional wrestling in the sense that while the action on the field is real and all injuries are legitimate, the outcome is predetermined.

Hell, it was just last February when some fans were even betting on a “leaked Super Bowl LVII script” that said the Philadelphia Eagles were going to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs 37-34. The Chiefs dismissed that notion by hoisting the Lombardi Trophy, however, the 38-35 final score was awfully close to the alleged leaked outcome.

Fast forward one year later and a new conspiracy theory has emerged regarding Super Bowl logo colors. Could the colors of the annual event reveal which teams will play in football’s biggest spectacle?

Let’s explore this theory and decide if it’s worth betting on.

Super Bowl Logo Color Theory Explained

The Super Bowl logo color theory has emerged over the last few weeks due to some internet detectives noticing a trend over the last few years. What started as a meme turned into a legitimate debate as to whether or not a logo’s color reveals which teams will compete for the Lombardi Trophy in February.

It all begins with the Super Bowl 56 logo, which primarily features orange and yellow. Funny enough, that game was played between the Cincinnati Bengals (orange) and Los Angeles Rams (yell0w).

Okay, but one example is only a coincidence, right? Well, Super Bowl 57 was played between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs, who matched the game’s green and red color scheme, respectively.

And now that the 2023-24 NFL playoffs have reached the Conference Championship Round, fans have realized that the Super Bowl 58 colors — red and purple — match two of the four remaining teams: the San Francisco 49ers (red) and Baltimore Ravens (purple).

You can call it another coincidence, but even the most skeptical people have to admit that the trend potentially reaching three years does raise some eyebrows.

Is the Super Bowl Logo Color Theory Legit?

On one hand, it’s easy to understand why some NFL fans view the Super Bowl logo color theory as being legit.

Again, it’s a funny coincidence if the logo colors matched two teams at one Super Bowl. But the fact that it’s happened two years in a row with a potential third on the way? I can see why some people are letting their imaginations run wild.

On the other hand, there are several reasons why a conspiracy theory just doesn’t work in this case.

Super Bowl Logo Theory: Is It Worth a Bet? Could it Affect NFL Conference Championship Betting?

For starters, the Super Bowl 58 logo was released almost a year ago, meaning the league would’ve needed to spend a year rigging things in the 49ers and Ravens’ favor. The argument in favor of the theory breaks down even further when you realize that 10 teams use red in their uniforms — including the Chiefs, who are still in the playoffs — while the Vikings are another team that uses purple.

Secondly, you have to admit it’d be pretty silly if the NFL was this obvious about rigging the Super Bowl. If it only takes an average fan to look at a logo to figure out that the league is fixing things, it’s safe to say that the NFL would be in a lot of hot water by now.

Thirdly, is it really that believe that commissioner Roger Goodell would sit in front of officials before each season and say, “Hey, we’re going to rig things in the 49ers and Ravens’ favor this season. Make sure they reach the Super Bowl?” Whether you love or hate Goodell, you have to admit that sounds pretty farfetched — especially with all the effort that would have to go into that.

Yes, a logo conspiracy theory is fun to discuss and there’s always going to be conversations about rigging in sports, but I doubt the NFL would be this obvious about fixing games if there was any truth to this theory.

Super Bowl Logo Color Theory: Is it Worth a Bet?

Even if you don’t believe in this conspiracy theory, there’s no denying that there’s a legitimate chance that the 49ers and Ravens will meet in Las Vegas next month. The two juggernauts are the No. 1 seeds in the NFC and AFC, respectively, meaning it isn’t unfathomable to believe that they’ll be the final teams competing for football’s biggest prize.

Fortunately for those who are convinced that a 49ers vs. Ravens Super Bowl is on the way, sportsbooks like BetOnline allow NFL bettors to wager on potential championship matchups.

As of Jan. 24 at 12:13 p.m. ET, BetOnline lists a 49ers vs. Ravens Super Bowl 58 showdown as the most likely scenario at +100 odds. The even odds mean that if you were to wager $100 on this matchup and it winds up happening, you’ll take home a $200 payout.

Funny enough, the 49ers (+145) and Ravens (+190) are also BetOnline’s favorites to win the Super Bowl, indicating how the conspiracy theory might be impacting NFL Conference Championship betting.

Nevertheless, at the end of the day, I’d be willing to wager on a 49ers-Ravens clash next month.

San Francisco and Baltimore are as elite as they come and experts have projected them colliding at Super Bowl 58 for months now. If they wind up clashing at Allegiant Stadium, that’s because they deserve to be there due to talent, not because of the logo’s color.
