Steelers vs. Commanders Analysis & Breakdown

Steelers vs. Commanders | NFL Week 9 Breakdown & Best Bets

Jayden Daniels and the Commanders look like they might win the NFC East.

Formerly known as, the Washington Football Team.

The Commanders are 7-2 this season, lead the NFC East, and don’t have any plans on conceding the top spot any time soon. Jayden Daniels is more than the Washington fans could’ve hoped for.

He’s 6-2 as a starter for the Commanders, throwing 216 yards per game with 9 touchdown passes and 4 rushing touchdowns to boot. Daniels is running, on average, 9 times per game; averaging 5.6 yards per carry and 51 yards per game.

The Commanders are currently 100% on 4th down (it’s Week 10) and they rank 5th in 3rd down conversion rate (46%). Washington’s offense is generating 22 1st downs, 392 total yards (3rd) and 29.2 points per game (3rd).

Despite their Head Coach, Dan Quinn’s history as a defensive coach, it’s their offense that’s turning heads. The Commanders are putting up numbers and having a fun time doing it.

Terry McLaurin’s having his best year since his sophomore year, and he’s already caught 6 touchdowns; just one shy of his career-high for a season.

The Steel Curtain

The Pittsburgh Steelers didn’t just add one big name quarterback in the off-season, they added TWO. Justin Fields had the Steelers out to a 4-2 start, he threw 5 touchdowns to just 1 interception but was still replaced by a healthy Russell Wilson.

Since Wilson took over, this Steelers offense has scored 63 points in two games, recorded 835 total yards of offense and have won each game by more than a touchdown. The results speak for themselves and it’s clear, Russell Wilson might still cook.

He’s averaging 271 pass yards per game, he’s thrown 3 touchdowns, no interceptions and he just completed 71% of his passes last week. Wilson’s getting back into the groove of things and it’s clear he’s comfortable.

Steelers vs. Commanders | NFL Week 9 Breakdown & Best Bets

Najee Harris has recorded 100+ rushing yards in 3 straight games.

The Steelers offense looks completely different with Russell Wilson under center. Pittsburgh’s averaging 31.5 points per game, they’ve got nearly 900 yards of total offense and the frequency with which they reach the red zone has been fantastic.

Prior to Week 8, the Steelers averaged just 3 red zone trips per game and converted just 1.4 into touchdowns. Over the L2 weeks, they’ve been to the red zone 10 times, recording a touchdown on 4 of those possessions.

It’s been especially beneficial for their starting running back, Najee Harris. Over the first 6 games, Najee saw just 16 touches from within the opposing 20-yard line; in the L2 games he’s recorded 11 carries in the red zone and has 1 touchdown to show for it.

The Commanders defense has been good over the last few weeks, but their quality of opponent has been questionable. Since their lost to the Ravens, the Commanders have beat up on the Panthers, Bears, and the New York Giants.

This week Washington has to deal with a red hot Steelers offense. Harris has seen 40 carries over the L2 weeks, averaging 5.5 yards per carry, and he’s recorded 100+ yards in 3 straight games.

The Commanders rank 31st in opponent yards per carry (5.1), 29th in opponent rushing yards (143/game), 29th in opponent red zone conversion rate (69%) and they’ve given up 5 rushing touchdowns over the last 4 weeks.

Look for Mike Tomlin to go to his guy early, often and definitely in the red zone.

Van Jefferson o1.5 Receptions (-110) via BetOnline – Get a $500 WELCOME BONUS

Steelers vs. Commanders | NFL Week 9 Breakdown & Best Bets

Van Jefferson has 8 targets over their last two games.

This ones a little weird, Van Jefferson to get us 2 catches. Last week Jefferson had 5 targets, caught 4 for 62 yards. In a two week span, with Russell Wilson, Jefferson has seen 8 targets, caught 6 passes and scored one touchdown.

He had 13 total targets over the first 6 games, 8 catches for just 77 yards. We know Russ loves to use his wideouts and it’s been clear over his first two starts. Pat Freiermuth has seen just 5 targets over the last two weeks, none of them coming in the red zone.

Russ has always trusted his guys on the outside, just a little bit more. The Commanders pass defense hasn’t been tested in almost 4 weeks, look for Mike Tomlin to test it early on Sunday.
