Analysis & Breakdown

Bryce is Back, Baby
For the first time in his career, Bryce Young has a winning record at the halfway point of the NFL Season. After nine weeks, the Panthers are 5-4, but 5-3 with Young under center. He hasn’t put up the flashiest numbers but Bryce hasn’t done anything this year to lose his team games.
The bigger story in Carolina is Rico Dowdle. Dowdle’s in his fifth year in the NFL, first year with the Panthers and once Chubba Hubbard got hurt, it was Dowdle that took the reigns. The Panthers are undefeated this year in games Dowdle carries the ball 20+ times and that includes their most recent win over Green Bay.
Dowdle’s averaging 152.8 yards from scrimmage per game over his last five and he’s scored four total touchdowns. He’s also caught 10 of his 14 targets and averaging 6.7 yards per touch. He’s been unstoppable and this week he matches up with a Saints defense that ranks 24th in rush yards allowed and 27th in rush yards allowed to RBs.
Down Bay in the Bayou
The Saints went from looking good in some games, to just absolutely terrible over the last couple weeks. New Orleans has just one win on the year and ever since their game against the Bears, the wheels have just fallen off. Starting QB Spencer Rattler was benched half way through their game against Tampa Bay and he hasn’t seen the field since.
Rookie Tyler Shough went into replace and got the start in their following game against the Rams. Shough completed 62.5% of his passes last week for 176 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The Saints were blown out 34-10 and the offense just never looked good. Shough will once again get the start on Sunday, this time against a very stingy secondary for the Panthers.
Outside of the QB situation, the Saints have no been able to run the ball. Alvin Kamara’s averaging just 41.9 rush yards per game and just hasn’t been utilized in the pass game like years prior. The team as a whole ranks 27th in rush yards per game, 30th in yards per play and just traded away their second best wideout; Rashid Shaheed.
It doesn’t look like it’s getting any better in New Orleans but in a divisional matchup, anything can happen.
Sunday’s Best Bets
Tetairoa McMillan o46.5 Receiving Yards (-105) | BetOnline

In just his rookie year, Tetairoa McMillan has become the Panthers top wideout. He’s seeing a 26.1% target share this year, averaging 62.0 reciving yards per game and already has 41 catches halfway through the year. He’s cleared this line in six of his nine games this year but has struggled over their last five.
Tet’s cleared this just twice in his last five, but the three misses game against the Packers, Sauce Gardener and then the lowly Cowboys. He’s still recorded 34 targets in those five games but just hasn’t seen the big yardage plays down field.
The Saints rank 14th in pass yards allowed but that has more to do with the fact they consistently find themselves down in games playing from behind. They just gave up over 150 yards combined to the tandem of Nacua and Adams.
After a few back to back tough matchups for Tet, I’m expecting a bit of an explosion from the young wideout in his first divisional game with the Saints.
