Analysis & Breakdown

The Flock is Back

The Ravens have won back to back games and Lamar’s back under center looking healthy. Baltimore went into Miami last week, Lamar threw for 205 yards and four touchdowns and even their defense looked better. They held the Dolphins to just six total points, both being field goals and managed to force three turnovers. This being Miami, I wouldn’t say the defense is back, but the Ravens definitely looked better.

Lamar’s return couldn’t have come at a better time, the team was coming off a big win against the Chicago Bears with Tyler Huntley under center and now after two straight wins; they’re back in the hunt for the postseason.

Derrick Henry looked much better last week with Lamar back, running for 119 yards and averaging 6.3 yards per carry. Mark Andrews was on the receiving end of two of Lamar’s touchdown passes and now with the deadline having passed, it looks like Baltimore understands his importance to the team. .

J.J. to J. Jettas

This Minnesota Vikings team has been one of the hardest to read this year. With the variety of quarterback changes, with how good their defense is but how often they give up big plays and with how different their offense can look on a week to week basis.

Last week J.J. McCarthy made just his third career NFL start and it was on the road against the Detroit Lions. McCarthy threw for just 143 yards but threw two touchdowns and rushed for one more. He’s now 2-0 against the NFC North, with wins against both the Bears and Lions. McCarthy’s got a 2-1 record overall but with two BIG time divisional wins.

Defensively the Vikings have been good, ranking 8th in pass yards allowed, 5th in defensive redzone efficiency and 9th in sacks. The issue is they also rank in the bottom five for explosive play rate allowed and that’s why they’re currently 20th in points allowed.

This blitz heavy defense is great at getting to the quarterback, but their aggressive play style has also resulted in some big time plays for the opposing team. That becomes a lot more dangerous when the guy on the other side is the 2x MVP, Lamar Jackson.

Sunday’s Best Bets

Jordan Addison o49.5 Receiving Yards (-105) | BetOnline

Jordan Addison

Addison’s only cleared this line twice this year and h’es got just one game with McCarthy under centre. He finished with just four targets last week, 48 yards and just two catches. The Vikings only threw the ball 25 times and really stayed in control of their game against the Lions.

This week they line up against one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL, ranking 25th in receiving yards allowed to opposing wideouts and 28th in passing yards allowed. Addison’s a big play guy and that’s exactly what the Ravens have struggled with this year.

Last week with McCarthy under center, Addison’s four targets accumulated 102 total air yards and averaging just over 25 yards per target. He is this team’s deep threat and with Kevin O’Connell on the sidelines it doesn’t matter who’s under center, Addison is going to get his looks.

Lastly, with Lamar back for the Ravens; the Vikings will need to score points. Last week’s 25 pass attempt game feels less likely this week, especially with Aaron Jones not at 100%. Look for Addison to have a big impact this week through the air.
