Analysis & Breakdown

Christian McCaffrey

Next Man Up

When it comes to injuries derailing your season, the San Francisco 49ers just refuse to let it happen. Their laundry list of injuries is long and includes a ton of their top players. Both George Kittle and Ricky Pearsall have missed five of the team’s nine games. Brock Purdy’s missed seven games and both Purdy and Pearsall still aren’t back.

Both Nick Bosa and Fred Warner are out for the year with season ending injuries, so it’s next man up here in the Bay. Even with all the injuries, the 49ers still rank 9th in points allowed and a ton of that is because of their 8th best redzone defense. They rank 20th in pass yards allowed, 18th in opponent third down conversion rate and if not for some big redzone stops they’d give be giving up a ton more points.

Offensively the Niners get the job done. They rank 23rd in points scored but 3rd in third down conversion rate, 5th in pass yards and 7th in first downs. They move the ball but once they get into the redzone they’ve had issues finishing drives. San Francisco ranks 20th in redzone efficiency and have converted just 56.7% of their redzone drives into touchdowns.

The Niners can’t continue to leave points on the board if they hope to win this week and I’m excited to see how they come how after back to back games on the road.

Hollywood Rams

The Rams have won six of their first eight games and have now won three games in a row. In fact, the Rams’ last loss came over a month ago, to this same 49ers squad. Since then the Rams have wins over the Ravens, Jaguars and Saints; outscoring opponents 86-20 in the process. The offense is rolling and they’ve now scored over 25 points in five of their eight games.

Los Angeles ranks 8th in points scored, 1st in pass yards, 3rd in first downs and 6th in yards per play. The team’s got multiple weapons all over the field and with the addition of Davante Adams the offense looks unstoppable. In his 17th year, Stafford’s averaging 268.4 yards per game with a league leading 21 touchdown passes. He’s thrown just two interceptions this year and has a passer rating of 115.3; good enough for sixth best in the NFL.

Defensively the Rams have been perfectly in step with the offense. They rank 1st in points allowed, 2nd in opponent third down conversion rate, 3rd in opponent yards per play and have done a phenomenal job of generating pressure. The Rams have the 7th highest graded pass rush, they rank 3rd in total sacks and the combination of Jared Verse and Byron Young have terrorized opposing QBs.

Sunday’s Best Bets

Davante Adams o59.5 Receiving Yards (-110) | BetOnline

Davante Adams

The read here is pretty clear, the Rams are looking for revenge and Matt Stafford’s absolutely slingin’ the rock. He’s throwing the ball 34.3 times per game and 53% of his targets are going to his top two targets; Davante Adams and Puka Nacua. The addition of Adams has unlocked another gear in the 37 year old Stafford.

He’s completing 67% of his passes and is currently on track to set a career high in passing touchdowns, at THIRTY SEVEN.

Adams’ is seeing a 26.0% target share this year, behind only Nacua at 27.1%. Los Angeles is coming off back to back 20+ point wins and despite the big wins, Stafford still threw the ball over 30 times. We’re rolling with Adams this week just because I love the value on his line.

Both Nacua and Adams are seeing almost identical volume but Adam’s line sits 30 yards lower. Adams leads the team in targets of 20+ yards and seeing an average depth of target of 13.3 yards. He finished with 88 yards against the Niners in Week 5, but only six of his 11 targets were deemed catchable. He finished the day with 170 total air yards and was so close to having a HUGE day.
