Analysis & Breakdown

Christian Gonzalez

Kings of the East

For the first time since Week 6 of the 2019 season, the New England Patriots are back atop the AFC East. This team ran the division for nearly 20 years, winning 17 division titles in 19 years and multiple Super Bowls. The New England Patriots are back and Drake Maye is the guy that’s going to keep them there.

The Patriots are set to play in their third straight road game, looking for their fourth straight win and fifth win of the year. This week the Pats will head to Tennessee, looking to get a little revenge for their Head Coach Mike Vrabel.

It’s been less than two years since Vrabel was fired by the Titans and his replacement didn’t even make it two full seasons with the team. Vrabel’s coming back into Nissan Stadium with bad blood in his heart and will be looking to make a statement. In his first year with the Patriots, Vrabel is 4-2, leading his division and his young Quarterback’s looking like one of the top gunslingers in the NFL.

Voldemort is Dead

Brian Callahan is out at the Titans’ head coach and his tenure will end with a 4-13 record and less than two full seasons under his belt. Callahan will be succeeded by Mike McCoy, a former Head Coach in the NFL and the Titans’ Senior Offensive Assistant. McCoy’s resume is extensive; he’s played in both the NFL and the CFL, he’s got 25 years of coaching experience and was Head Coach of the San Diego Chargers for three years.

McCoy is by no means “the guy” but he’s the guy for now. One of the biggest knocks on this Tennessee team was the lack of offensive creativity and just lack of progression we’ve seen from the offense. McCoy is an offensive minded head coach that may help unlock this offense a little bit. The problem is their opponent this week is the New England Patriots and Mike Vrabel.

The Patriots rank 7th in points allowed, 4th in rush yards allowed and have allowed just 17.3 points per game since Christian Gonzalez has returned to the field.

Sunday’s Best Bets

Rhamondre Stevenson Anytime Touchdown (+100) | BetOnline

Rhamondre Stevens

Absolutely no one tell Trizzy I’m betting on a Patriots RB to get into the endzone. I understand that with Treyveon Henderson sharing the backfield and Josh McDaniels calling the plays it’s tough to rely on any Patriots RB. This week however the matchup is just too good to pass up. The Titans rank 25th in rush yards allowed, 32nd in rushing touchdowns allowed to RBs and 28th in redzone touchdown rate.

The Titans have had absolutely no answer for opposing backs and it’s why they’ve given up a rushing touchdown in every game this year and allow almost 115 rushing yards per game to opposing RBs. Rhamondre is 9th among RBs with nine carries inside the 10-yard line and continues to out-snap the rookie Henderson.

Plenty of questions come up as to why Henderson’s not involved more and to me it looks like his pass blocking needs a ton of work. Henderson’s got the worst pass blocking grade of all offensive players on the Patriots and just a 67% pressure efficiency rate. He’s had seven opportunities to stop pressure, surrendering four pressures, three hurries and one sack.

Compare that to Rhamondre’s 98.8 pass blocking efficiency rating and you can see why Vrabel’s still hesistant to use the rookie, Henderson.
