Analysis & Breakdown

CJ Horn

We Want..Bryce Young?

The Carolina Panthers have more wins than the Cowboys, the Commanders, the Vikings, Falcons, Ravens and Texans. If I told you in Week 1 that the Panthers would have more wins in Week 9 than that list of teams, you’d look at me sideways. Bryce Young’s been at the epicenter of every one of the Panthers wins this year and last week without him under center, the team fell apart.

Prior to his injury in Week 7, Young and the Panthers had won three straight games; wins over the Dolphins, Cowboys and Jets. The Panthers’ fourth win came in Week 3 when Carolina shut out the Falcons; 30-0. Young’s been decent for the Panthers this year, throwing six touchdowns and two interceptions in the team’s four wins; but it’s their ground game that stands apart.

Carolina has two RBs in the backfield with elite levels of talent and one of them has put the team on his back. In the Panthers last three wins, Dowdle’s carried the ball at least 17 times in each game, finishing with at least five yards per carry 90+ total yards from scrimmage. In the two games without Chubba Hubbard on the field, Dowdle’s recorded 389 yards on the ground, 84 through the air and two total touchdowns.

Head Coach Dave Canales made it clear this week to the media, Hubbard deserved a shot after returning from his injury, but now after two games it’s time to feed the hot hand; Dowdle.

Green Machine

The Green Bay Packers defense is the kind you see in your nightmares. I understand I’m a fan of this team but they currently rank 10th in points allowed, 4th in opponent third down conversion rate, 3rd in rush yards allowed, 4th in QB hits and 8th in sacks. The team’s front seven does a great job of getting pressure on the opposing QB and it’s only magnified by the play of the Packers’ secondary.

The Packers rank 7th in touchdowns allowed this year and have done a great job of preventing explosive plays. Offensively, it’s the opposite; big plays all the time. The offense if finally starting to come together and it feels like Head Coach Matt LaFleur is finally starting to open up that playbook a little bit.

The Packers made a statement on Sunday Night last week, rolling into Pittsburgh and leaving with the double digit win. Jordan Love did something neither Brett Favre or Aaron Rodgers could do during their time in Green Bay; win IN Pittsburgh. Love not only won, but threw for 360 yards, three touchdowns and completed 78% of his passes.

Christian Watson made his season debut after suffering an ACL tear in January of this year. The young wideout caught all four of his targets, finishing with 85 yards and he was on the receiving end of Love’s most impressive throw of the night.

Sunday’s Best Bets

Tucker Kraft o59.5 Receiving Yards (-110) | BetOnline

Tucker Kraft

It’s just incredibly difficult for me to believe that what we saw from Kraft last week was a fluke. This guy is next up in the TE world and I’m so glad he’s on my team. Kraft’s third among TEs this year in receiving yards (469) but 9th in receptions (30). How’s that possible? Yards after the catch.

Tucker leads all TEs this year in yards after the catch and sits 2nd in the entire NFL with 336 yards coming after the catch. That means 72% of Kraft’s receiving yards have come after the catch and that’s exactly why we’re targeting him against this Panthers defense.

The Panthers have done a great job against opposing wideouts but have struggled against the TE position. Carolina currently ranks 27th in yards allowed to the position and 26th to receivers lined up in-line with the offensive line. Kraft ranks 2nd in receiving yards from the in-line position and looks poised for another big day through the air.
