Analysis & Breakdown

Can Justin Fields get the Jets their first win of the season?
Black Cats are Bad Luck
The Panthers have won back to back games for just the second time in Bryce Young’s short career, coming off huge wins against the Dolphins and Cowboys. They’ve also now won three of their last four games, averaging 29.0 points per game. In these two wins, Young’s thrown for 397 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. He’s completed 65.5% of his passes and recorded a passer rating of 101.9.
Big reason we’ve seen Young excel is the emergence of this Panthers run game. Over the last two weeks we’ve seen Rico Dowdle start in the backfield for Carolina and he’s been absolutely unstoppable. He’s got 473 total yards from scrimmage with two touchdowns and an average yards per carry of 7.3. Despite starting just two games for the Panthers, Dowdle already leads the team in rushing yards and has more than double the rush yards of Chubba Hubbard.
With the run game flourishing, more opportunities for play action have opened up. In the Panthers last two games, 51% of Young’s production has come off of play action. In these two games the Panthers have utilized play action on 35% of their plays, the 7th highest rate of any team over the last two weeks.
Winless in New Jersey
The New York Jets are the only winless team in the NFL. This week the team comes home after an ugly matchup with the Broncos in London. The Jets scored just 11 points on the day and Justin Fields finished with a net -10 pass yards. It wasn’t made any better by the fact that the Broncos won despite only scoring 13 points, including just three in the second half.
This week the Jets will be without their top offensive weapon in Garrett Wilson and rumours are beginning to swirl in regards to a Breece Hall trade. Their defense ranks 28th in points allowed, dead last in turnovers generated, 23rd in rush yards allowed and 24th in touchdowns allowed per game.
The Jets are coming apart at the seams and now a loss to the Panthers at home might be the final nail in the coffin. New York’s season is pretty much over but if new Head Coach Aaron Glenn hopes to keep his job, he’ll need to help will this team to at least a couple of wins this year.
Sunday’s Best Bets
Jalen Coker o27.5 Receiving Yards (-111) | BetOnline

The Panthers second year wideout is finally healthy and back on the field. After missing the first six weeks of the year, Coker will be on the field this week and ready to make an instant impact out of the slot. In 11 games last year, Coker cleared this line in eight of his games, averaging 43.5 receiving yards per game in his rookie year.
Coker will slide into that Hunter Renfrow spot for this Panthers offense and it’s a spot on the field we’ve seen Young look to often. Hunter Renfrow ranks 2nd in target share for the Panthers and now they’ll insert Coker into his spot; a 6’3 receiver with great hands and phenomenal route running skills. He went undrafted because of a slower than average 40-yard dash and it’s why the Panthers were able to snag him.
In nine games with Bryce Young under center last year, Coker saw 5+ targets in seven games; averaging 49.8 receiving yards per game. He’s seen 5+ targets in four of his last fives games last year and it’s clear he was beginning to develop a real rapport with his young QB. This week against the Jets on the road, I’m look for the second year kid to have an immediate impact.
It’s easy to forget what Jalen Coker offers the #Panthers when he returns. Assumption was he’s replacing AT in the slot, and then seeing Renfrow in that ‘role’…
But Coker is different. Versatile, bigger & better athlete, contact balance to create YAC, reliable RR + hands pic.twitter.com/eKS7uOWRO1
