Analysis & Breakdown

Health is Wealth
The San Francisco 49ers finally have a few of their big names back on the field and it took them exactly one week to show out. Last week we saw the return of both Brock Purdy and Ricky Pearsall for the 49ers, both had been out since their Week 4 game against the Jaguars. The 49ers scored 44 points in a divisional game and took firm control of the Arizona Cardinals from start to finish.
Purdy completed 73% of his passes in his return and threw three touchdowns in the process. George Kittle lead the team with 6 receptions 67 yards and was on the receiving end of 2 of Purdy’s touchdown passes. Christian McCaffrey looked great, recording 121 yards from scrimmage and 3 total touchdowns.
The only guy who didn’t make as big of a splash was Pearsall. Ricky was on the field for 75% of the team’s offensive snaps but saw just two targets. Defensively the Niners held the Cardinals offense to 22 points and forced 3 turnovers in the process. The defense is missing both Fred Warner and Nick Bosa but have done their best in their absence.
San Francisco ranks 16th in points allowed, 19th in redzone efficiency, 25th in opponent first downs and 28th in opponent pass yards. The Niners also rank 26th in passing touchdowns allowed, having allowed 21 on the year and 2+ in 6 of their last 7 games.
Shootin’ for the Throne
The Carolina Panthers enter Week 12 with a chance at a share of top spot in the NFC South. If the Panthers were to upset the Niners tonight, they’d move into a tie for first place with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for 1st place in the NFC South and that seemed impossible at the start of this year.
Carolina’s playing some of the best football we’ve seen them play since the departure of Cam Newton. They’re currently 6-5 on the year but with some impressive wins under their belt. The Panthers come into this one fresh off a double digit, second half comeback against the Atlanta Falcons. Bryce Young had his best game ever as a Panther, throwing for 448 yards, 3 touchdowns and completed 69% of his passes.
This was Young’s third time this year with 3+ passing touchdowns and the Panthers fifth win in their last six games. The defense ranks 13th in points allowed, 7th in opponent redzone efficiency, and 6th in opponent first downs.
Lastly, we can’t forget about Rico Dowdle. Since Hubbard initially went down, Dowdle has exploded onto the scene. Over the team’s last seven games, Dowdle’s averaging 20.0 carries per game, 107.1 rush yards and 5.4 yards per carry. The Panthers have gone 5-2 in these games and Dowdle now ranks 8th in the entire NFL in rush yards.
Monday Night’s Best Bet
Ricky Pearsall o39.5 Receiving Yards (-110) | BetOnline

Like I said, everyone made a bit of a splash last week except our guy, Ricky Pearsall. Pearsall’s shown flashes of elite talent and when he’s on the field he’s this team’s obvious WR1. In five games this year, he’s seen 5+ targets in four of the five games; the one miss being his most recent game. Pearsall even had 4 catches for 46 yards in the game against Jacksonville before he was hurt.
Last week we saw him return to the field but only garner two targets for zero yards. After the game General Manager John Lynch told media he was happy to just see Ricky out there and “getting his feet under him.” It feels like the Niners were looking to ramp Ricky up a little slowly, he saw a no first read targets last week and that just adds to why I think he wasn’t really involved in last week’s game plan.
The Cardinals also run two-high shells at a top 10 rate in the NFL and that’s the exact type of coverage we’ve seen Ricky struggle against in his career. The Panthers are running single-high coverage on 56% of their defensive snaps (11th) and just looking at Pearsall’s numbers you can see the difference.
Against single-high he sees a 23.6% target share, 3.87 yards per route run and a 31.9% first read target share. Since the departure of Deebo Samuel and (basically) Brandon Aiyuk, Pearsall looks like the clear Wr1; averaging 7.8 targets and 80 receiving yards per game, prior to last week.
This line is simply too low.
