Analysis & Breakdown

Cheese, Cheese and more Cheese
The Green Bay Packers are absolutely rolling through the first two weeks of the season. The Packers have held two of the NFL’s top five offenses from last year to just 31 total points and have yet to give up a first half touchdown. Green Bay ranks 2nd in rush yards allowed, 10th in pass yards allowed and third in yards allowed from scrimmage. The defense ranks 2nd in sacks (8.0), 1st in yards allowed per play and 4th in first downs allowed. The Green Machine has been an elite defensive group through two weeks.
On the offensive side of the ball, this Matt LaFleur offense continues to look great. Jordan Love threw for 292 yards in Week 2, recording two touchdowns through the air and completing 61% of his pass attempts. Love did miss on two absolute bombs to rookie wide out, Matthew Golden. The rookie’s still working on timing with his new quarterback even though he currently leads the league in separation rate.
Flacco Gets the Nod
After getting benched in Week 2 against his former team, Flacco once again gets the starting nod for the Cleveland Browns. Flacco threw the ball 45 times in their Week 2 loss, completing just 55.6% of those passes and one touchdown through the air on a tipped ball. He hasn’t looked good this year, recording three interceptions across two his first two games but just two touchdown passes.
The Browns have both Dillon Gabriel and Shadeur Sanders waiting for their opportunity and if Flacco continues this poor play, that opportunity may be coming sooner than some expect.
Rookie running back, Quinshon Judkins, made his debut for the Browns last week. The rookie was on the field for just 27% of the team’s offensive snaps, but still saw 10 carries for 61 rushing yards to go along with three receptions for 10 yards. The rookie caught all three of his targets in Week 2 and touched the ball on 13 of his 20 total offensive snaps.
Sunday’s Best Bets
Matthew Golden o29.5 Receiving Yards (-110)

Matthew Golden should’ve had almost 100 yards receiving and possibly two touchdowns in their Week 2 win against the Commanders. Love missed Golden on two prime opportunities, the first of which came on fourth down during the Packer’s first offensive drive. Love sent the ball deep and just couldn’t get enough air under the ball.
Out of all Packers’ wide receivers, Golden sits 2nd in routes run, 2nd in snap percentage and first in separation score. In fact, Golden leads the entire NFL in separation score and it’s something the Packers have yet to take advantage of. Golden’s seen just four total targets this year but has an average depth of target of 23 yards. The Packers are looking for the home run ball and this is the week they hit it.
Harold Fannin Jr. o34.5 Receiving Yards (-110)

The rookie tight end was drafted in third round of this year’s NFL Draft and has immediately carved out a significant role in this Browns’ offense. Fannin Jr. is seeing a 14% target share through two weeks, despite seeing only 68% of the team’s offensive snaps. The rookie comes into the NFL after recording 117 catches in his final year at Bowling Green; going for 1550 yards and 11 total touchdowns. The kid can ball and it’s been on full display early this season.
Fannin’s running a route on 91% of the team’s passing downs and Cleveland’s shown a willingness to have him line up in the slot; giving them a significant size mismatch.
The Packers defense has looked great this year, but they’ve struggled against the tight end position. In their first two games this year, the Packers allowed Sam LaPorta to record 79 receiving yards and gave up 64 to Zack Ertz last week. A lot of this has to do with this Packers pass rush, currently ranked 2nd in sacks; but a lot of it is also the team’s secondary.
Among cornerbacks with 50 or more snaps this year, Keisean Nixon has the highest coverage grade according to PFF rankings; Carrington Valentine ranks 5th on the exact same list. The Packers have left opponents no options on the outside, so look for Cleveland to turn to their two tight ends this Sunday.
