Analysis & Breakdown

Toyotathon

Toyotathon is real and I’m here to say it again. In his career, during Toyotathon; Jordan Love’s averaging 284.2 pass yards per game with 36 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. It’s a lot of fun to watch but it’s just an example of Love elevates his play when it counts most. In games coming in Week 11 or later, Love is 15-5; completing 67.2% of his passes with 37 touchdowns, 3 interceptions and a passer rating of 1110.5.

The offense has come alive over the last couple weeks, scoring 27+ points in three of the four games and 23+ points in all four games. Love’s thrown 9 touchdowns in these four games, 1 interception and he’s completing 62% of his passes. On the year, Love ranks 9th in pass yards, 5th in passing touchdowns, 4th in passer rating, 4th in completion rate over expectation and 1st in EPA/play.

Love’s quite literally been one of the most valuable players in football and it’s time we start talking like it. One of the biggest helps for Love has been the return of Christian Watson. Watson is the 5th highest graded WR according to PFF this year and a big reason is his big play ability. Since his return, Watson is 10th in receiving yards and 3rd in receiving TDs among WRs. Last week he had 4 catches for 80+ yards and 2 touchdowns.

Lastly, let’s cap it off with this Packers defense. The defense ranks 6th in points allowed, 7th in passing yards allowed, 9th in rush yards allowed and 5th in opponent yards per play. Micah Parsons continues to prey on opposing QBs and continues to help open lanes for his teammates to get to the QB.

Double Digit Wins in Denver

Speaking of players that have terrorized QBs this year, let’s take a second and talk about this Denver defense. The trio of Nick Bonitto, Jonathan Cooper and Zach Allen have combined for 26 sacks and thats exactly why the Broncos average 4.2 sacks per game. The Broncos rank 1st in sacks, 1st in QB hits, 1st in opponent yards per play, 1st in opponent third down conversion rate and 2nd in opponent rush yards.

The Broncos make you earn every single point, giving up just 18.1 points per game this year (1st) and giving up just 193.0 pass yards per game (11th). Denver’s won 11 of their 13 games this year on the back of this defense and it’s the reason they sit atop the AFC West.

Bo Nix is averaging 227.2 pass yards per game in his second year, completing 63.2% of his passes with 19 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. He hasn’t been the best but he’s done enough to win games for the Broncos. Rookie RJ Harvey has been thrust into a full time starter role with the injury to J.K. Dobbins.

Harvey’s coming off his biggest game as a Bronco, recording 75 yards on 17 carries (4.4 YPC) with 6 receptions and 1 touchdown. The offense is full of young studs and Head Coach Sean Payton’s done a great job of utilizing everyone at his disposal.

Pat Bryant, another rookie, is coming off his third straight game with 4+ targets; reeling in 12 receptions for 156 yards and no touchdowns. Second year wideout Troy Franklin is tied for the team lead in receiving touchdowns (5) and is averaging just under 4 receptions per game.

Courtland Sutton, the team’s vet, looks poised for his second career 1,000 yard season, catching 5 touchdowns and leading the team in targets.

Sunday’s Best Bets

Christian Watson o54 Receiving Yards (-110) | BetOnline

Christian Watson

Christian Watson has been on an absolute heater and I don’t see why it doesn’t continue this week. The Broncos pass defense is top five in the NFL and they’ve got the reining Defensive Player of the Year in Pat Surtain. That being said, the Packers will need to move the ball through the air and Christian Watson’s been the guy to do it.

Watson’s averaging 64.6 yards per game this year and his return to the field has had an immediate impact on this Packers offense. The Packers have won four straight games and scored 23 or more points in each one. Watson’s got five touchdowns in those 4 games, averaging 66.0 receiving yards per game and leads the team with a 25.2% target share.

Watson’s averaging 2.93 yards per route run, 15.5 yards per reception with an average depth of target of 15.2 yards. He’s seeing 36.0% of the air yards in these four games and has a catch rate 65%.

This week’s matchup is tough but it’s the exact kind of matchup you have to win to be an elite wideout. Watson’s thriving this year against man coverage, something Denver runs at a top five rate this year. He’s been Green Bay’s highest graded receiver against man coverage and his target rate jumps to 34.9%.

Look for Watson to make a splash in the Mile High City this weekend.
