New York Jets vs. Pittsburgh Steelers: A pair of quarterbacks will get a chance to make their former teams feel regret when Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers travel to the East Coast to take on Justin Fields and the Jets. Not only is there a new quarterback in New York, but also a new head coach in Aaron Glenn.
Previously serving as the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, Glenn’s defensive prowess should fit seamlessly with this Jets roster. Where can we find value in a best bet between the Steelers and Jets? Let’s find out.

New York Jets vs. Pittsburgh Steelers NFL Betting Insights

Can Mike Tomlin lead his Steelers to another winning season?
Quarterback Questions
The 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers enters his 21st season with his third NFL team. This could be his last year in the league, and he’ll get to partner with one of the best coaches in the NFL in Mike Tomlin, along with a top-tier defense and an offense featuring newly added wide receiver DK Metcalf.
Last year with the Jets, Rodgers wasn’t bad, but he wasn’t the Rodgers we’ve been accustomed to watching over the years. That’s natural, though. He’s in his 40s and tore his Achilles two years ago – it’s unrealistic to expect him to return to his prime form, though flashes do appear from time to time. But that’s about all you’re going to get at this stage.
Speaking of flashes, that’s also an apt description for his upcoming opponent, Justin Fields, who has brief moments of solid play. Unlike Rodgers, Fields hasn’t had an illustrious career, not only because he’s just 26, but also because the talent is simply not comparable. Unless you live under a rock, that probably goes without being said.
Nevertheless, Fields can electrify in spurts, mainly with his legs – that’s where most of his magic happens. Can it happen against a healthy and seemingly improved Steelers defense? Maybe, but Pittsburgh has more experience than most with mobile quarterbacks, seeing Lamar Jackson twice a year. The difference: Jackson is multi-dimensional, whereas Fields usually beats you in just one way – on the ground.
Old Friends, New Bets
One exciting angle to watch is Fields’ reunion with his former Ohio State teammate Garrett Wilson. The two excelled in college and now look to replicate that success in the NFL.
Fields is a first-read type of quarterback – he panics and leans on guys he trusts. This season, that receiver will be Wilson.
I’m betting Garrett Wilson over 4.5 receptions (-149). The chalk is steep, but I like the number. While there’s no sample size with these two together in the pros, Wilson averaged about six receptions per game last year. That doesn’t necessarily translate to what Fields will provide, but it reinforces how skilled of a receiver Wilson is.
Who Gets Revenge?
This line opened with Pittsburgh as a three-point favorite, and the total around 39.5. Currently, most sportsbooks list the Steelers as -2.5 to -3-point favorites with the total dipping to 38.
The move toward the under isn’t surprising. Two quarterbacks unlikely to light up the scoreboard are facing defenses that will define their teams’ identity.
As for the spread – considering we’re getting under the key number of three makes a play on the Steelers appealing. In terms of the quarterback, coach and defense – the Pittsburgh Steelers get the advantage in all facets.
Rodgers gets revenge and the Steelers cover -2.5.
