Minnesota Vikings vs. Tennessee Titans Picks and Predictions (8/22): Last Weekend of Preseason Action

Tyjae Spears and the Titans take on Minnesota tonight - Vikings Titans Picks

The final week of the NFL Preseason is upon us, as a couple of teams wrapped up their third contest last night. We have four more matchups scheduled for some Friday Night Lights action, as well as a full slate of Saturday football for you this weekend. Tonight, in this article, we will dive into just one of the contests as we head to Music City, where the Tennessee Titans host the Minnesota Vikings, and we’ve got our favorite picks to share with you.

Despite a shaky start, we are still in the green overall this NFL Preseason, and we’re looking to build on that tonight.

Of course, let’s talk about who will actually see the field tonight.

Cam Ward has taken some snaps for Tennessee in both preseason games, but tonight we might see some extended time. Whenever he gets taken out, Brandon Allen has shown some good things in his time on the field. Regardless, the Titans starters will likely be out there for longer than we’ve seen so far in this preseason.

As for the Vikings side of things, I doubt we see any starters. Minnesota has indicated that they are expecting to sit J.J. McCarthy in this preseason finale, leaving Max Brosmer to take over the offense.

You can probably tell where I’m going with this, but let’s get into the betting odds.

Keep in mind, coaches aren’t necessarily looking to win these games. This is the final chance for coaches to evaluate the talent on their roster, and to try out some new tactics or combinations before the regular season begins.

It might seem like offenses are out of sync going into the real deal, but it might just be due to the team trying to get something new to stick. You can’t make anything work if you don’t try, so expect both coaches to really test the limits in this final preseason contest.

To me, that sounds like a sloppy, defensive-dominated matchup.

Look, this isn’t rocket science.

The Titans are playing their starters for an extended period of time, likely a full quarter, while the Vikings are not. That leads me to lean towards Tennessee in their preseason finale at home. However, I am much more intrigued by this total, and will be backing the under once again.

These two offenses have combined for just five touchdowns over their first four preseason contests. That is not good, and not sustainable. Offenses won’t get any help either, and I have much more faith in both back up defenses than I do the other side of the ball.

Ultimately, the Vikings have gone under this number in both preseason contests, while the Titans barely squeaked under in their first game, giving up 29 total points. I’d like to think their defense will be much improved from their opening matchup, and there should be some more motivation playing at home as well.

This will be the first look Titans fans get at their rookie QB at home, but I still think it will be a mundane, boring, low scoring contest. Give me the under.
