Can I just say… it feels fantastic to be chit chatting about some football. Seeing a total for anything above four really gets me going (I’ve been betting a lot of soccer this offseason), and tonight’s game is just the teaser for what should be another phenomenal NFL season.
However tonight we are likely not going to see very many starters, as Los Angeles has already indicated QB Trey Lance will take over for the offense tonight. I would imagine we don’t see Jared Goff or any of the Lions’ skill players as well. But let’s dive in deeper about who might be seeing the field, and how we can go about wagering on this Hall of Fame Game.

Chargers vs. Lions NFL Prediction: Lions Win, Under 34
Best Bet: LAC/DET 1H Under 17.5 (-108) BetOnline
I think we see points in this matchup, but I don’t think we see too many early. We obviously are not going to get the top offensive players, and likely won’t see the best of the best on defense either. However my theory is defense takes less rust to shake off, while you need some time to let an offense gel and build a rhythm.
In this game tonight, I’m not sure how much rhythm we will see from these two backup squads.
Trey Lance doesn’t move the needle for me, and Dan Campbell has said we won’t see very many starters. Hendon Hooker will lead the Lions, with Kyle Allen likely getting some reps as well. Despite the first team defenses probably not trotting out their either, I’ll side with a back up defense over a back up offense in the very first game of the season.
Both of these coaches are very defensive minded, and I bet it shows tonight, especially with both teams ranking in the top 10 in points allowed last season.
Give me less than three scores in the first half.
