Week 2 of the 2023 NFL season is loaded with huge matchups, including Sunday’s clash between the New York Jets and Dallas Cowboys. It’s a showdown between two teams who were named Super Bowl contenders before the new season even began, meaning there’s a ton of hype around this matchup.
The Jets’ 22-16 victory over the Buffalo Bills in Week 1 was tainted by the fact that they lost starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers to a season-ending Achilles tear. Meanwhile, the Cowboys look to win their home opener after a massive 40-0 blowout over the New York Giants.

Jets vs Cowboys Week 2 Preview
The Jets are facing an uphill battle without Rodgers under center.
With all due respect to backup QB Zach Wilson, he’s a massive downgrade from the four-time NFL MVP. Wilson has struggled to live up to the hype that came with being the No. 2 selection in 2021, averaging just 181.0 passing yards and a 71.2 passer rating in 23 career games (22 starts).
Even with the weapons that he has, Wilson will have a tough test against the Cowboys defense. Dallas’ defensive unit is one of the best in the NFL, highlighted by it holding the Giants to 171 total yards with three turnovers and seven sacks.
Considering how Wilson has been sacked 69 times with 19 interceptions in his young career, it could be a long day for the third-year gunslinger.
At the same time, it’s going to be interesting to see if Dak Prescott has a stronger game, too.
Although the weather played a factor, the Cowboys QB didn’t look too amazing against the Giants. He only completed 54.2% of his passes for 143 passing yards without a TD, whereas the Dallas backfield combined for 122 rushing yards and three TDs on 30 carries.
The Jets defense isn’t anything to joke about, either. New York terrorized Buffalo’s offense throughout the night, holding the Bills to three second-half points while also generating five sacks and four turnovers (3 interceptions, 1 fumble).
In other words, if Prescott doesn’t figure things out, this game could wind up being closer than the odds imply.

With Rodgers sidelined, I’m taking the Cowboys to win this game. Dallas has the clear-cut edge at quarterback while the defense is still flying high after last week’s shutout
With Wilson being one of the more mistake-prone QBs in the league, I don’t see the Jets scoring enough points to win.

Even though I see the Cowboys winning, I’m taking the Jets on the spread. Their defense is still elite and that was proven by how they shut the Bills down for the most part. After Prescott didn’t look too special last week, this game will be closer than expected.
Tony Pollard Over 19.5 Receiving Yards (-120 on Bovada)
The Cowboys’ Tony Pollard is one of the most versatile running backs in the NFL. While he’s solid on the ground, he’s also a terrific pass-catcher who averaged 23.2 receiving yards per game with a 70.9% catch rate in 2022.
Now he gets to face the Jets, who allowed 42 receiving yards to the Bills’ RBs after surrendering the 13th-most receiving yards to the position last season. After amassing 96 receiving yards in his last three home games, I’m confident that Pollard hits the Over again.
