Houston Texans vs. Los Angeles Rams Picks and Predictions: Discounted Player Props

Puka Nacua is the go-to pass catcher for the Rams this season - Texans Rams Picks

C.J. Stroud leads the Houston Texans in his third season in the NFL. The young QB has had plenty of success early on with two division titles and two playoff wins as well. However, he has lost to the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs in the postseason, failing to get by Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes. The Texans look to win another AFC South division title this year, however there is a frisky team standing in their way in Week 1. Houston travels to the City of Angels to take on the Los Angeles Rams to start the year, and we’ve found our favorite picks.

Can CJ Stroud lead the Texans to a third straight AFC South Title? Texans Rams Picks

Can CJ Stroud lead the Texans to a third straight AFC South Title?

The Houston Texans have a very exciting offense, but they will be missing some pieces early on. Running back Joe Mixon is on the IR for the foreseeable future, and WR Tank Dell is still out. The Texans brought in Nick Chubb to be their go-to back, with Dameon Pierce ready to fill in when needed. Houston signed Christian Kirk this offseason to step up while Dell recovers, but he is dealing with a strained hamstring which is “expected to sideline him” for their season opener against Los Angeles.

However, they drafted two rookies, both from Iowa State in Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel, who should immediately help free up Nico Collins, or contribute themselves. Defensively, the Texans are set, boasting one of the quickest and most experienced units in the entire NFL.

But Los Angeles isn’t going down without a fight. Sure, Matthew Stafford is dealing with a back issue, but that’s been lingering for several seasons. I think the gunslinger still has it, even with the departure of Cooper Kupp. Puka Nacua is set to be the top pass catcher for LA, with new wide out Davante Adams pairing up with him. Kyren Williams is still the lead back, and Tyler Higbee lines up at TE.

The Rams won the NFC West last season with just a 10-6 record, and double digit wins likely takes the division this season. But can they get a tough one at home to start the year?

I side slightly with the Rams, given they are at home and much healthier than the Texans, but I don’t think it will come easy. The field goal spread seems about right in what I think might be a low scoring game, and it might come down to whoever possesses the ball last.

With that in mind, I’ll be backing a Texan’s rookie to show out in his debut.

Texans vs. Rams NFL Prediction: Rams Win, Texans Cover, Under 43.5

Best Bet: Jayden Higgins Over 26.5 Receiving Yards (-115) BetOnline

Back Jayden Higgins with me this Sunday. The rookie is listed as WR3 on the depth chart, but as stated above, WR2 Christian Kirk will likely miss the contest. That means more targets and receiving yards to go around for the Houston pass catchers, and I expect this guy to make an immediate impact.

He had over 2,000 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns at Iowa State the past two seasons, and he is built to play on Sundays. Higgins is listed at 6’4″ 215 lbs, making him a monster compared to some of the DBs who will be covering him this season. Without Tank Dell, Joe Mixon or Christian Kirk, there’s offensive production to go around. Given Nick Chubb’s age and coming off an injury, I’m not sure how effective the Texans’ running game will be. Plus, I expect Houston to be playing from behind, giving all receivers (especially Higgins) more targets.

Now, last season, the Rams ranked No. 7 in yards allowed per game. Nico Collins is going to get plenty of attention, but I think we are getting a potential WR2 at an incredible discount this Sunday. I’ll also be sprinkling on Higgins to find the end zone at +350 as well.
