Giants vs Dolphins Week 5 Preview
The Giants have been one of the worst teams to begin the 2023 NFL season and there’s still no light at the end of the tunnel.
Last week’s 24-3 loss to the Seahawks demoralized Giants fans everywhere. The embarrassing defeat marks the third time in four games that New York has scored 12 or fewer points.
The Giants’ offense just isn’t that good, no matter how you look at it. The playmakers aren’t making plays and the offensive line certainly isn’t protecting Daniel Jones, who’s been sacked 22 times (2nd-most) while facing a league-high 53 pressures.
Although the Dolphins’ defense has left much to be desired, the unit is still tied for the 12th-most pressures (39) and 12th-most QB hurries (15). Considering how Jones leads the NFL with six interceptions, continuing to apply pressure will result in his making even more mistakes.
I don’t foresee the Dolphins having any issues scoring points this week. Sure, they only dropped 20 on the Bills, but the Giants’ defense isn’t even close to that level.
New York surrenders the third-most points in the NFL (30.5 PPG) and has allowed no fewer than 24 points in each of its first four contests. The Giants can’t stop the run either, giving up 146.0 rushing yards per game on the road.
The Dolphins’ backfield has been on a roll lately, led by the dynamic tandem of Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane. The Miami RBs have combined for 558 rushing yards and 10 TDs through four games, putting them in a good spot to tear up the Giants’ defensive line.
At the end of the day, I wouldn’t overthink this matchup too much. The Giants are basement-dwellers while the Dolphins are potential Super Bowl contenders, further highlighting that this game likely won’t be close.
Giants vs Dolphins Prediction — Week 5
I wouldn’t waste a second thinking that the Giants will pull off an upset. They’re absolutely awful on both sides of the ball and have been getting blown out left and right.
The Dolphins, meanwhile, have something to prove after their loss to the Bills. New York is the perfect opponent to beat up and get some mojo back, which is why Miami won’t break a sweat in what should be a blowout win.
