For just the second time in his career, Saquon Barkley’s back at MetLife as a visitor. The Giants have a rookie quarterback and a rookie running back leading the charge, still looking for their second win of the year. Let’s jump right into Thursday Night Football.

Analysis & Breakdown

The Dark Knight Returns
The biggest story line going into Thursday night’s game is Saquon coming back to MetLife. Now this won’t be the first time he’s played his former squad, nor will it be the first time he’s come back to MetLife; but with this situation I’d imagine it’s always, personal. Barkley ranks 4th on the Giant’s list of All-Time Rushers, recording 5,211 total rushing yards and 47 total touchdowns.
Now Saquon returns to his former stomping grounds a member of the Philadelphia Eagles, public enemy #1. In his one game against the Giants last year, Barkley ran for 176 yards on 17 carries (10.4 YPC), scored one touchdown and went home with the win. This year the Eagles come into this game off their first loss of the year, Barkley saw just six carries, recorded 30 rushing yards and three catches for 58 yards and a receiving touchdown.
Philly made it a point to try and move the ball through the air last Sunday. Hurts finished the game with 280 passing yards, two touchdowns and a passer rating of 100.8. Hurts completed 61% of his passes, didn’t turn the ball over but was sacked six times. The Eagles offense elected to pass on 80% of their offensive drives last week and it might be why their offense struggled.
The Eagles had just two redzone trips in Week 5 and it’s how the Broncos were able to keep Philly out of the endzone. Philly’s offense ranks #1 in redzone efficiency this year, with a majority of those points coming via touchdowns. This week they line up against a Giants defense that ranks 5th in redzone trips allowed, allowing just 2.8 per game.
New York Football Giants
New York was back, for about a week. Jaxson Dart’s first career start was an electric one; recording 111 passing yards, 54 yards on the ground, two total touchdowns and a win over Justin Herbert. After their big win, the Giants headed down to Louisiana; ready to face the win-less New Orleans Saints. In just his second career start, Dart finished with 202 passing yards, two touchdowns and three turnovers.
Dart threw two interceptions, lost one fumble and was severely outplayed by Spencer Rattler. The Giants came back down to Earth and now return to MetLife, on a short week, with the defending Champs in town. The Eagles have won seven of the last eight meetings, with the Giants lone win coming at the end of the 2023 season with mostly bench players active. Six of these losses have been under Head Coach Brian Daboll and something has to change if he hopes to keep this job.
Thursday Night’s Best Bets
DeVonta Smith o49.5 Receiving Yards | BetOnline

With all the chatter about the Philadelphia pass game, this week against the Giants feels like the perfect time to shut everyone up. The Giants rank 25th in pass yards allowed, 31st in receiving yards allowed to wide receivers and really depend on their pass rush to get home; otherwise it’s open season on the secondary. Last week New York let Olave and Shaheed combine for 173 yards and the week prior it was Quentin Johnson going for 97.
The Giants are also giving up the 2nd most production to slot wide receivers this year, with second year corner Andru Phillips giving up most of that production. Phillips has been targeted 33 times and he’s given up 24 catches for 246 yards and two touchdowns. He’s given up the most yards out of the slot this year, in the entire NFL and sits tied for most touchdowns allowed.
This week Phillips will match up with Devonta Smith. Smith leads the Eagles in snaps out of the slot and leads Philly in receptions and receiving yards; despite being second in target share. Last week Smith caught eight of his 10 targets and finished the game with 114 yards. He’s cleared this line in three of the Eagles five games this year and this week’s matchup look’s even better.
With so much narrative around Saquon and A.J. Brown, I’m swerving and going with the guy who always makes the big play in the big game. DeVonta Smith on Primetime, feels good.
