Analysis & Breakdown

Elic Ayomanor

The Rookie wide out’s connection with Cam Ward is off to a hot start

Terrible Tennessee

The Titans drafted Cam Ward with the #1 overall pick this offseason and by no fault of his, the team’s gotten out to a 1-7 start. The offense looks bad, the defense looks worse and they’re already down one Head Coach on the year. Tennessee’s lost three straight games by double digits and six of the team’s seven losses have been decided by double digits.

The Titans rank 29th in points allowed, 26th in rush yards allowed and 28th in opponent yards per play. Tennessee ranks 30th in touchdowns allowed this year and have tremendously struggled against opposing RBs. They rank 31st in rush yards allowed to opposing RBs, dead last in touchdowns allowed to the position and just let Jonathan Taylor run for 153 yards and three touchdowns.

On the offensive side the Titans have had a few bright spots. Outside of just Cam Ward, rookie wideout Elic Ayomanor has shown flashes of high level play. He currently leads the Titans in targets, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. Outside of their rookies, the Titans have been abysmal and it’s tough predict what’s going to happen with this team on a week to week basis.

Sunshine

Justin Herbert’s helped the Chargers to a 5-3 record this year, averaging 267.5 pass yards per game with 16 touchdowns and seven interceptions. After a 3-0 start with wins over both the Chiefs and Broncos, the Chargers have now lost three of their last five games and watched their lead in the AFC West disappear.

The Chargers offense has looked good this year but they’ve had some issues finishing drives. Los Angeles ranks 1st in third down conversion rate, 6th in first downs, 4th in passing yards but 27th in redzone efficiency. The Chargers have converted just 46.4% of their redzone drive into points and it’s that’s something they’ll need to rectify if they hope to keep winning games.

Los Angeles is also down to their third string RB, with injuries to both Najee Harris and Omarion Hampton still keeping them on the sidelines. The receiving room’s been great, with Keenan Allen currently leading the team in targets and the recent emergence of rookie TE; Orande Gadsen.

Defensively the Chargers have looked good, they rank 11th in points allowed, 6th in pass yards allowed, and 8th in touchdowns allowed. The defense ranks 6th in redzone efficiency and has done a great job of getting off the field and preventing first downs (5th). The Chargers’ rank 8th in the NFL with seven interceptions and rank 5th in the NFL for coverage grade.

Sunday’s Best Bets

Orande Gadsen o45.5 Receiving Yards (-110) | BetOnline

ORande Gadsen

Last week was National TEs Day but we’re going right back to the big boy in Los Angeles. Gadsen’s come alive for this Los Angeles air attack, he’s tallied five or more receptions in four of his six games this year and he’s seen a steady increase in his offensive snap court. Last week Gadsen was on the field for a season high 77% of offensive snaps.

Gadsen caught all five of his targets in the Chargers blowout win last Sunday. He finished the day with 77 yards through the air and a touchdown. He’s also been the Chargers’ top graded receiver against zone coverage schemes this year. The Titans come in just above average for zone coverage rate, turning to it more often than man coverage but only slightly above league average.

Over the last three weeks, Gadsen sees a 29% target rate against zone coverage and this is something the Titans have struggled against this year. Big bodied TEs that find holes in the zone. Tyler Warren just finished with 55 yards last week in their win over the Titans and it was Michael Mayer of the Raiders with 50 yards just two weeks ago.

This week I’m going right back to the big man and I really think he gets into the endzone once again this week.
