Analysis & Breakdown

There’s Supposed to be a ‘D’ in Dallas
This Dallas Cowboys team continues to play absolutely no defense. Last week the Cowboys went into Denver and got beatdown by a second year quarterback. Bo Nix throw for 247 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. On the ground it was J.K. Dobbins with 111 yards and a 7.4 yards per carry average. Dallas gave up six total touchdowns in that game and it’s become a consistent theme for them this year.
The Cowboys rank 31st in points allowed, 28th in defensive redzone efficiency, 32nd in opponent third down conversion rate, 30th in passing yards allowed and rushing yards allowed. The team’s giving up 6.2 yards per play (30th) and rank 25th in sack percentage.
Offensively, it’s the complete opposite; the team’s been unstoppable. Despite the ugly loss in Denver, the Cowboys rank 3rd in points scored, 11th in redzone efficiency, 2nd in first downs, and 1st in pass yards per game. Outside of last week’s ugly loss, Dak’s also looked great; averaging 258.6 yards per game with 16 touchdown passes and five interceptions.
The problem with Dak is the home and away splits. At home this year Dak’s averaging 314.7 yards per game, he’s got eight touchdown passes, one interception and a passer rating of 114.2. Now let’s take a look at the road splits; 225.0 yards per game, eight touchdowns, four interceptions and his passer rating drops to 92.5. He’s still good on the road, but he’s been elite here in Jerry’s World.
Silence of the Cardinals
The Cardinals have now had back to back games without Kyler Murray under center now and the team’s looked pretty good. The Cardinals lost both games but the offense looked significantly better and both matchups came down to the final possession of the game. When you add in the fact that it was the Packers and the Colts they matched up with, two of the top four teams in the NFL, you can see why the Cardinals are once again going with Brissett.
Head Coach Jonathan Gannon told media that Brissett will get the start this week, though Murray could still have a role in the offense. What that means, I’ve got no clue. The team’s deemed him healthy enough to be active, but not healthy enough to start at QB. Feels like a silent benching to me, but I guess we’ll have to see if it sticks.
Brissett’s in a good spot this week, a good game could help him stay on as the starter and he matches up with a Cowboys defense that ranks bottom five in nearly all categories. In his two games as a starter, Brissett’s thrown for 599 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. He’s got a passer rating of 98.9 and he’s completing 65% of his passes.
Arizona’s also averaging 25.0 points per game with Brissett under center and have 730 yards of total offense; out-gaining both the Colts and Packers in their last two games.
Monday Night’s Best Bets
Zay Jones o1.5 Receptions (-130) | BetOnline

This one’s going to be a sweat so strap in. Zay Jones in two games with Brissett under center has nine targets, seven catches for 146 yards and no scores. Zay’s hit this line in four of his six games this year and this week they face off with a Dallas Cowboys pass defense that struggles against opposing wideouts.
The Cowboys rank 17th in receptions allowed to wide receivers, 31st in yards allowed to the position and have not done a good job of generating pressure to help out their secondary. This week I’m targeting Zay because of his recent usage but also because tonight’s a bit of a homecoming for the 30 year old vet.
Zay grew up in the Dallas/Austin area and he’s only played here at AT&T Stadium once. He’s played the Cowboys twice in his career, finishing with a combined 11 receptions, 168 yards and three touchdowns. In the Cardinals last two games, Jones has been their best graded receiver against zone coverages, something Dallas runs a ton of.
