Past 10 AFC South Division Champions

  • 2024: Houston Texans (10-7)
  • 2023: Houston Texans (10-7)
  • 2022: Jacksonville Jaguars (9-8)
  • 2021: Tennessee Titans (12-5)
  • 2020: Tennessee Titans (11-5)
  • 2019: Houston Texans (10-6)
  • 2018: Houston Texans (11-5)
  • 2017: Jacksonville Jaguars (10-6)
  • 2016: Houston Texans (9-7)
  • 2015: Houston Texans (9-7)

The CJ Stroud era in Houston is off to a hot start, with two straight divisional titles and two playoff wins, but could anyone over take them this season?

While the Indianapolis Colts haven’t topped the division in the past decade, they did win it two times in a row in 2013 and 2014, as well as having a stranglehold on the AFC South during the Peyton Manning years. Will Indy be able to make some noise this year with a QB duo?

Odds to Win Super Bowl LX

  • Houston Texans +3300
  • Indianapolis Colts +10000
  • Jacksonville Jaguars +10000
  • Tennessee Titans +20000

Like I said, worst division in football. Likely only the winner will make the playoffs, unless someone surprises us and competes with the Texans, because according to Vegas, they are on their way to a three-peat.

Odds to Win AFC South Division

  • Houston Texans +110
  • Jacksonville Jaguars +275
  • Indianapolis Colts +325
  • Tennessee Titans +700

The Texans have a stellar defense and great skill players on offense. The Titans are relying on No. 1 overall draft pick Cam Ward to lead them, the Jaguars really aren’t that great as a team, and even the Colts don’t know who their week one starting QB will be.

I agree this is the Texans’ division to lose, but I don’t think I’d be willing to take what they are offering.

Team Win Totals

Houston Texans

  • Over 9.5 (-110)
  • Under 9.5 (-120)

Indianapolis Colts

  • Over 7.5 (-115)
  • Under 7.5 (-115)

Jacksonville Jaguars

  • Over 7.5 (-145)
  • Under 7.5 (+115)

Tennessee Titans

  • Over 5.5 (-155)
  • Under 5.5 (+125)

I won’t be taking any win totals in this division, but I heavily lean under with both the Colts and the Jaguars. Both seem like 7-10 teams at best, but the problem is, they both get to play the Titans (and each other) twice. Also, either team could somehow sneak out a split against the Texans, making me pause and pass.

If I had to choose one, I would go with the Colts, as I don’t have confidence in either QB on their roster. While I also don’t have that much faith in Trevor Lawrence, Brian Thomas Jr. proved to be an elite receiver, and could find himself in the top five discussion by the end of the year.

Nico Collins and the Texans are looking to go further in the NFL Playoffs this season - AFC South Preview Picks Predictions

AFC South Team Breakdown

Houston Texans

They’ve won the division twice since drafting Stroud, and he’s got plenty of talent around him. Nico Collins headlines the wide receiving corps, along with Christian Kirk and rookies Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel. Tank Dell is still sidelined, along with RB Joe Mixon.

But the Texans signed Nick Chubb, who is still capable of being a RB1 in this league. Houston has a very good defense as well, ranking No. 5 in yards allowed per game last season.

Again, this is the Texans’ division to lose until further notice, but they certainly aren’t an automatic 6-0 against the rest of the AFC South. Houston will have to host Tampa Bay, Denver, and Buffalo this season, along with traveling to face both teams in Los Angeles, Baltimore, Seattle and Kansas City, making things a little more difficult.

Can Indianapolis make some noise in the division this year? AFC South Preview Picks Predictions

Can Indianapolis make some noise in the division this year?

Indianapolis Colts

The Colts don’t even know if they’ll start Anthony Richardson or Daniel Jones in Week 1, but regardless, neither fixes this team’s issues. Sure, they have Jonathan Taylor and Michael Pittman Jr., along with rookie TE Tyler Warren, but Josh Downs and Alec Pierce round out the skill players, and neither moves the needle for me.

Defensively, the Colts should be rock solid, barring multiple lingering injuries to several starters. Plus they are just a frisky team that always wins games they shouldn’t.

The Colts also travel to face both teams in the City of Angels, as well as facing Pittsburgh and Kansas City on the road. At home, their most difficult non-divisional matchups include the Broncos.. and that’s it. The Colts get Miami, Las Vegas, Arizona all coming to town in 2025, which is what gives me pause on their win total under.

Brian Thomas Jr. could be a top five wide receiver in the NFL this year - AFC South Preview Picks Predictions

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars’ hype is surrounded by second overall pick Travis Hunter, who just won the Heisman and will indeed play both ways in the pros. He lines up with Brian Thomas Jr. and Dyami Brown as the wide outs for the Jags, adding Brenton Strange at tight end. Travis Etienne Jr. is still the lead RB, but Tank Bigsby’s role might be a bit bigger this upcoming season.

Jacksonville ranked No. 26 in points scored last season, and tied for No. 27 in points allowed. Those things need to change if they want to have a successful season, but defensively, things could be grim. The Jags also ranked second to last in yards allowed per game as well.

They’ll play the AFC West like the rest of the division, hosting the Chargers and Chiefs but taking on Denver on the road. The Jags also have to go to Cincinnati, while getting to host the Panthers and Jets. This could be a very good or bad season for Jacksonville, and I lean towards the latter.

Cam Ward leads the Titans as the No. 1 Overall draft pick - AFC South Preview Picks Predictions

Cam Ward leads the Titans as the No. 1 Overall draft pick

Tennessee Titans

If my wonderful Titan-loving boss is reading this, it ain’t personal.

The Titans are still the bottom team in the AFC South in my eyes. Sure, Cam Ward is exciting. And I think he’s going to be a great NFL quarterback… some day… not this year.

Pairing new wide out Tyler Lockett next to Calvin Ridley gives him some veteran experience in the pass catching department, and Tony Pollard leads a RB tandem with Tyjae Spears. I will be the first to admit, things are trending upwards in Music City… but not quick enough to make a difference this season.

They were No. 30 in points allowed last season, but were also No. 2 in yards allowed per game. Someone make that make sense.

Regardless, the Titans do have an “easier” schedule, but some of those easy games are on the road, which could be daunting for a rookie QB. Tennessee hosts Kansas City as their toughest game overall, and get the benefit of playing the Patriots and Saints in Nashville. However, some of those toss up games against the Cardinals, Raiders, and Browns are all on the road, along with going to Denver and San Francisco.

Overall, it’s Houston’s division until proven otherwise, as I do not believe in any of the other teams this upcoming NFL season.
