Analysis & Breakdown

This One’s for Skatt

Last week the Giants went into Philadelphia for the 2nd of their two matchups this year and the worst possible thing happened; Cam Skattebo dislocated his ankle early in the 2nd quarter. The young bull will miss the rest of the year and it couldn’t come at a worst time for the Giants.

New York’s now 2-3 with Dart under center and he’s averaging just 140.6 pass yards per game but has thrown three touchdowns. Dart’s also managed four touchdowns with his feet this year and is averaging 27.9 rush yards per game. He’s shown an innate ability to not only extend the play, but also pick up the first down on the ground if needed.

Defensively the Giants started out the year pretty well. New York’s pass rush is graded as the 8th best in the league but they’re now 26th in points allowed and 29th total yards allowed to their opponents. They rank 29th in opponent first downs and 26th in opponent yards per play. It’s been a tough go for the Giants this year and now with Skatt on the shelf, it’s not going to get any easier.

Sunshine in the Bay

The 49ers are playing in their second straight road game and coming off an ugly loss. San Francisco went into Houston last week and looked terrible, both offensively and defensively. The Niners scored just 15 points, recorded just 223 total yards and less than 19 minutes in time of possession.

Mac Jones had his ugliest game of the year, completing just 59% of his passes and throwing for 193 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. This was just Mac’s second loss of the year and this week he’s looking to head into MetLife and make sure that doesn’t happen again.

On the defensive side, the Niners rank 8th in points allowed and 7th in opponent redzone efficiency. The team’s giving up 229.2 pass yards per game (22nd) and have not done a good job generating pressure. The team’s now without both Fred Warner and Nick Bosa so it’s no surprise we’ve seen this defense regress a little bit.

Last week C.J. Stroud had his second best game of the year against this defense, throwing for 316 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. This week they’ll go head to head with new hot kid on the block, can they keep up?

Sunday’s Best Bets

Tyrone Tracy o17.5 Receiving Yards (-110) | BetOnline

Tyrone Tracy

With the loss of Cam Skattebo for the season, the Giants will have to look to their second year back, Tyrone Tracy. In his rookie year Tracy finished with 839 yards from scrimmage, six touchdowns and averaged 4.4 yards per carry. He also caught 38 of his 53 targets last year, averaging 7.5 yards per reception and just under 17 receiving yards per game.

Tracy is a former wide receiver turned running back. In his last year at Purdue, Tracy made the switch and finished the year with 716 yards on the ground, eight touchdowns and averaged 6.3 yards per carry. He was drafted in the fifth round of last year’s draft and became the team’s starter by about Week 5.

After taking over, Tracy averaged 62.3 yards per game on the ground, 18.7 through the air while garnering 3.6 targets per game. This year hasn’t been the same with the emergence of Cam Skattabo and Tracy suffering an injury early on in the year. Now with Skatt on the sidelines, Tracy’s the #1 guy here in New York and this Giants team have been heavily utilizing their RBs in the pass game.

Skatt was 2nd on the Giants in receptions despite being fourth in targets. Dart’s been heavily leaning on the check down and this it’ll be Tyrone Tracy in that spot. The Niners also rank 29th in receptions allowed to opposing backs and 21st in receiving yards allowed to the position.

Woody Marks, Bijan Robinson and Kyren Williams all recorded 40+ yards through the air against this defense and Tracy’s got a very similar pass catching pedigree. Look for him to be heavily utilized this week, especially in a game in which the Giants will be forced to move the ball through air.
