Some Big Ten football happens in Bloomington as the No. 2 ranked Indiana Hoosiers look to stay perfect when they host the UCLA Bruins. There is plenty of excitement surrounding this Bruins football team after the quick departure of their head coach early in the season. They’ve strung together three straight wins after beating Penn State, Michigan State and now Maryland, but easily face their toughest opponent of the season on the road this Saturday. Let’s dive into our favorite picks to see if they even stand a chance this weekend.

UCLA Bruins vs. #2 Indiana Hoosiers NCAA Football Insights

UCLA started off 0-4 but have quickly risen to 3-4. They sit near the top of the Big Ten with their 3-1 conference record, and Nico Iamaleava is finding his stride, along with newly appointed offensive coordinator Jerry Neuheisel. They’ve scored 33.3 points per game during their winning streak, but find themselves as nearly four touchdown underdogs on the road.

Indiana has been perfect thus far, and can walk their way into the Big Ten Championship. The Hoosiers remaining schedule includes UCLA at home, road games against Maryland and Penn State (who we now know is terrible), hosting Wisconsin, and ending on the road against Purdue, with a bye week before hand. There is nothing standing in their way except themselves, and I expect Curt Cignetti to make sure his team is plenty focused.

Although it isn’t UCLA’s first time traveling east, it’s still a long ways away and a very early kick off. Could they get caught sleeping in the first half? I sure hope so. The Bruins gave up all 17 points to Northwestern in the first half. Imagine what this Indiana offense can do if they come prepared.

UCLA vs. Indiana Prediction: Indiana Wins and Covers, Over 53

Best Bet: Indiana 1H -14 (-120) BetOnline

Get in and get out. The Hoosiers will want to take the Bruins out of this game immediately, and they are certainly capable of doing so. UCLA can only run the ball. They do so for 5.1 yards per carry, but are north of 100 (bottom 36) in yards per pass. Defensively, their secondary is much better than the trench unit, ranking bottom 20 in yards per rush allowed. Plus, they are third worst in the country in opponent third down conversion rate.

Indiana will do whatever they please offensively. They are No. 16 in first half scoring on both sides of the ball. The Hoosiers score 19.5 points per first half, with that increasing to 23.5 at home. On defense, they only allow 8.8 per first half and only 8.3 at home. This team ranks No. 5 in third down conversion rate on both offense and defense, and are also top 25 in yards per carry, again, on both sides of the ball.

They don’t pass often, but are incredibly efficient when they do, ranking top 10 in yards per pass and top five in completion percentage. I see Indiana starting off red hot on offense, their defense will come prepared and UCLA’s offense might take a couple drives to get things going. Give me the Hoosiers to leave the Bruins in the dust as they lead by at least two touchdowns by halftime.
