#11 Tennessee vs. #6 Alabama Picks and Predictions: Vols Head to Tuscaloosa

Can Joey Aguilar have a career day against the Gators on Saturday? Tennessee Florida Picks

The SEC is full of great matchups this weekend, one of which is down in Tuscaloosa as the No. 6 Alabama Crimson Tide host the No. 11 Tennessee Volunteers. Joey Aguilar leads the Vols into Bryant-Denny Stadium after skating by with one possession wins the past two weeks. However Alabama is a perfect 3-0 in SEC play and have won five straight after dropping their opener on the road in Tallahassee. Have the Tide found their stride? Or can Tennessee figure out a way to pull off the upset on the road? Let’s dive into our favorite picks.

#11 Tennessee Volunteers vs. #6 Alabama Crimson Tide NCAA Football Insights

Like I said, Alabama has been perfect since their opening blemish. They are 4-1-1 against the spread this year, pushing as a field goal favorite in Columbia last week. People counted out the Tide after the loss to Florida State, but this season is far from over. They are very much on their way to an SEC Championship and a trip to the College Football Playoff. But they’ve got to buckle down at home.

Tennessee had three cupcake non conference wins to start their season, but lost to Georgia when the Dawgs came to Neyland. The Vols led 21-7 after the first quarter, but then Georgia scored 20 unanswered to take the lead. Tennessee led again by eight with six minutes to go, but gave up a touchdown and a two point conversion to go to OT, where they lost. In their two other SEC games, the Vols tied the Mississippi State Bulldogs with less than two minutes to go, only to win in OT, and were out gained by Arkansas in their three point win thanks to three Razorback turnovers.

Spread

  • Tennessee +8 (-106)
  • Alabama -8 (-114)

Moneyline

  • Tennessee +252
  • Alabama -310

Total

  • Over 59 (-110)
  • Under 59 (-110)

My mind thinks Alabama keeps their foot on the gas in this game. The Volunteers gave up nearly 500 yards of offense to Arkansas, and allowed 503 to the Bulldogs. The Crimson Tide should have no problem cruising to a quick lead, but that means Aguilar will have to sling the pill. That means there should be plenty of receiving yards to go around which brings me to a man who is used coming up big.

Miles Kitselman gets all of the TE targets for Tennessee - Tennessee Alabama Picks

Miles Kitselman gets all of the TE targets for Tennessee

Tennessee vs. Alabama Prediction: Alabama Wins, Tennessee Covers, Over 59

Best Bet: Miles Kitselman (TENN) Over 22.5 Receiving Yards (-115) BetOnline

Miles Kitselman is essentially the only receiving TE on the Volunteer’s roster. He is fourth on the team in receptions and receiving yards with a pair of touchdowns. Kitselman has 79% of TE receptions this year (19/24), and he’s been a pair of familiar hands for Aguilar. Plus, Kitselman is back at Alabama where he played prior to coming to Knoxville.

Kitselman has two receptions in all six games this season, three catches in four of those contests, and has had nine in his last two. He’s cleared this line in 5/6 games this year, including five straight, along with 30+ receiving yards in 4/6 games and 40+ in his last two as well. Plus, Alabama struggles to cover the TE position.

TE Success vs. Alabama

  • MIZ: 3-38-1, Long 26
  • VAN: 2-45, Long 33 and 3-28, Long 8
  • WIS: 2-30, Long 19
  • FSU: 2-18, Long 14

Kitselman averages over 10 yards per catch, so we will only need a couple to get over this line. But given how much Tennessee should be throwing the ball, look for this TE to get plenty of work on Saturday.
