Syracuse vs. #7 Georgia Tech Picks and Predictions: Can Yellow Jackets Stay Perfect?

Georgia Tech is 7-0 for the first time since 1966 - Syracuse Georgia Tech Picks

Two ACC teams meet in Atlanta with one looking to stay perfect and the other needing to stop the bleeding. The Syracuse Orange have lost three straight after starting off the season 3-1, including a huge win over Clemson on the road. However now they face a team who also beat Clemson, and is off to a 7-0 start. The No. 7 ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have been perfect all season long, and will likely need to remain that way in order to make the ACC Championship. Let’s get into our favorite picks and see what might happen in this matchup.

Syracuse Orange vs. #7 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets NCAA Football Insights

The Cuse lost to Tennessee to open the season, but still put up 26 points. Then they won three straight, beating UConn in overtime, Colgate, and Clemson on the road. However the wheels quickly fell off, and the Orange were humbled by Duke, SMU and Pittsburgh. Now, they have covered in two of three games as double digit underdogs, and did so both times they were catching at least three scores. Can they do so again on the road?

Now Georgia Tech is 5-2 against the spread and 7-0 overall. They do not have the toughest schedule, with their one ranked win coming over Clemson (who is now irrelevant). Their remaining games include against Syracuse and Pitt at home and against NC State and Boston College on the road. This team could easily go undefeated in ACC play, and be 11-0 going into their final contest against the Georgia Bulldogs. But they’ve got to remain focused and finish the task at hand.

While I don’t know if the Yellow Jackets cover the 17 plus the hook, I will be backing their quarterback to do what he’s done all season long, which is run all over opposing defenses.

Syracuse vs. Georgia Tech Prediction: Georgia Tech Wins, Syracuse Covers, Under 53

Best Bet: Haynes King (GT) Over 79.5 Rushing Yards (-122) BetOnline

In my eyes, this is how you back the Yellow Jackets in this game. If Georgia Tech is having success, Haynes King is running the ball plenty, and doing a good job at it. Plus, Syracuse cannot stop the run.

They rank north of 100 (bottom 36) in yards per rush allowed, giving up 4.8 yards per carry to opponents. This includes giving up over six yards per carry to Tennessee, Clemson and Duke. Against quarterbacks specifically, Mason Heintshcel (PITT) ran 12 times for 23 yards while taking seven sacks. However, he did find a 36 yard rush during the game. Even Joey Aguilar (TENN), who isn’t known for using his legs broke off six carries for 34 yards, including a 25 yarder while not taking a single sack.

Haynes King has only been sacked three times all year and hasn’t taken one in the past three games. He leads the Yellow Jackets with 101 carries (20 more than next leading rusher), 560 rushing yards (150 more than next), and 10 rushing touchdowns (four more than next). They run the ball over 60% of the time and for 5.8 yards per carry as a team.

King has ran for 100+ yards in 4/6 games this season, which is why I don’t mind laddering this up to that number. He has had at least a 17 yard rush in all six games, and a 22 yard rush in 4/6 including three straight. Look for him to have plenty of success on the ground this weekend at home.
