Southern Miss vs. Georgia Southern – October 9
Thursday Night Football, the real Thursday Night Football, under the lights in Statesboro, Georgia. Everyone is flocking to their favorite search engines searching for some diabolical insights to get the best value possible on Southern Miss versus Georgia Southern. Truly, the game of the night. Fear not, I have found a player prop worth sweating in this one.
We are riding with Southern Miss running back Jeffery Pittman, taking his over 55.5 rushing yards tonight. The junior halfback has quietly put together a solid start to the season, averaging 4.8 yards per carry on roughly 10+ touches per game. Pittman has cleared this number in two of four games and is coming off an 80-yard outing on 18 touches against Jacksonville State.
Yes, he does split carries with his quarterback, who actually leads the team in attempts and fellow back Matt Jones. Still, Pittman continues to see the most consistent workload, and that should hold true tonight.
Pittman vs. Georgia Southern
Georgia Southern’s rush defense has been an absolute disaster, allowing more rushing yards than any team in the country. The Eagles are giving up an eye-popping 304 yards per game on the ground. Even removing matchups against USC and Fresno State, they still surrendered 214 rushing yards to Jacksonville State and 331 to James Madison, two run-heavy teams that simply overpowered them. They even let three Maine players top 30 yards apiece.
Southern Miss averages about 36 rushing attempts per game, while Georgia Southern has allowed over 42. If Pittman gets double-digit carries again, he should have no trouble clearing 55.5 yards.
Ideally, the Golden Eagles jump out early and lean on their ground game late, letting Pittman chew the clock and cash our ticket. If Southern Miss can establish control at the line of scrimmage, their offensive rhythm will naturally flow through Pittman. Georgia Southern has struggled to contain consistent ground attacks all season, and if that trend continues, Pittman should have plenty of opportunities to break off chunk gains. A positive game script, sustained drives, and a few explosive runs could easily put him over this number by the fourth quarter.
Best Bet: Jeffery Pittman Over 55.5 Rush yards (-114) odds via BetOnline
