“Operator, won’t you put me on through? I gotta send my love down to Baton Rouge!” The South Carolina Gamecocks are headed to the Bayou and will be Callin’ Baton Rouge all the way there. The Gamecocks have been rather disappointing so far this season, but now they have a chance to pull off a huge upset against the No. 11 LSU Tigers. Doing so with Garrett Nussmeier and company coming off a bye week might be nearly impossible, but LaNorris Sellers has done more with less, even if we haven’t quite seen it this year. The Tigers are 4-1 this year, suffering their first loss to Ole Miss in Oxford two weeks ago. It was arguably their first true test, as we’ve learned their victories at Clemson and against Florida don’t look so great. They had the chance to prove themselves against the Rebels and came up short, losing 24-19. But now they’ve had some time to relax at home, while South Carolina couldn’t look ahead.

After winning their first two, the Gamecocks dropped contests to Vanderbilt and at Missouri. However they turned things around two weeks ago against Kentucky, putting up 35 points on the Wildcats. It was a much needed confidence boosting win for South Carolina, but can they ride that momentum into the second half of the season? Both teams will be meeting after a bye week, but the Tigers certainly have the nod in terms of weapons.

South Carolina vs. LSU Prediction: LSU Wins, South Carolina Covers, Under 44.5

Best Bet: South Carolina/LSU Under 44.5 (-110) Bovada

Bet the under with me. Now, I’ve been burned plenty on LSU unders in the past, but the Brian Kelly defense this year is actually legit. They make Baton Rouge a very tough place to play, as they’ve allowed just 27 total points in three game there this season. Clemson only scored 10 and they held Ole Miss to 24 but just seven in the second half. I’d like to think they can contain Sellers and keep this a low scoring game.

Last year, they forced three turnovers and just a 25% conversion rate on third down in Columbia. Now the Tigers get the Gamecocks at home. Sure, South Carolina’s schedule ahead of them is very daunting, but after two conference losses already, they can’t afford to look ahead. I have not been overly impressed with the LSU offense so far this season, and against a motivated Gamecock team ready to embrace their role as the conference spoiler, points could be at a premium.

I see this being a 21-17 ball game, with Nussmeier leading the Tigers down the field for a game winning touchdown on the final drive. You heard it here first.
