Pittsburgh vs. #16 Georgia Tech Picks and Predictions: Yellow Jackets Win at Home

Can Brent Key rally his team and get them fired up for this rivalry game? Georgia Georgia Tech Picks

A couple of ACC teams with just one conference loss take the stage Saturday Night in Atlanta, as the Pittsburgh Panthers face the No. 16 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Bobby Dodd Stadium. Last week, the Panthers lost to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish by a million at home when Gameday was there, but as Pat Narduzzi said pregame, he didn’t care! All he cared about was his team’s final two ACC contests. Well he’s getting what he asked for against a very motivated Yellow Jackets team, let’s get into our favorite picks for this matchup.

Pittsburgh Panthers vs. #16 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets NCAA Football Insights

The Panthers sit at 5-1 in the ACC, tied with SMU and one win behind Georgia Tech and Virginia. They are 7-3 overall, losing in the Backyard Brawl to West Virginia, at home to Louisville in their ACC opener, and finally against the Irish at home. But there is still a way for the Panthers to sneak into the conference championship. That starts with this one against Georgia Tech, and a win against No. 13 Miami to close out the season.

Georgia Tech controls their own destiny. All they need is this win, and they punch their ticket to the conference championship. After this, they have to play Georgia on a short week next Friday, but how much do the Yellow Jackets care about that game? A win wouldn’t put them into the College Football Playoff, but wins over Pitt this weekend and over potentially Virginia in the ACC Championship sure would. It will be interesting to see how they approach this game, especially with the Bulldogs looking ahead and getting their own tune up against Charlotte.

Last week, Pat Narduzzi came out and said he didn’t care about Notre Dame. He just wanted to focus on the remaining ACC games, and it clearly showed as they laid a dud against the Irish. But if I’m Brent Key, I’m taking one out of Narduzzi’s playbook. I would be doing everything in my power to make sure my players are focused on their final conference game at home. Sure, you play Georgia on the big stage the day after Thanksgiving, but this is the one that matters more.

I trust the Yellow Jackets to come prepared and end their conference season with a win.

Best Bet: Georgia Tech ML (-140) BetOnline

Georgia Tech controls their own way into the ACC Championship, in a conference that likely only sees one team in the College Football Playoff. Winning the conference is the only way into the 12 team field. The Yellow Jackets are two wins away.

The game against Georgia shouldn’t even be in their minds. They care about the two others. Beat Pitt at home on Saturday Night, and you’re in the ACC Championship. Beat whomever on December 6, and you’re in the CFP. It’s that simple. Who cares if you beat Georgia if it means losing out on a spot in the playoff. The Yellow Jackets are not looking ahead. All they care about is this win.

Pittsburgh is not a good team. Their best win came against then No. 25 Florida State, who is just 2-5 in the ACC. They have not beaten a team with a winning conference record, and they’ve looked real bad against the two teams they played with a pulse. Pitt has to finish against Miami, but this is the win that could propel them on top of the Yellow Jackets. However, I don’t think they are up for the task.
