Kent State vs. Ball State – November 5

Wednesday Night MAC Football, or as the cool kids call it, MACTION!!

We are heading to Ball State, where the Cardinals host the Kent State Golden Flashes. Kent State is coming off its third win of the season over Bowling Green, while Ball State looks to bounce back from a loss to Northern Illinois. The Cardinals enter as short favorites and are hunting for their third conference win of the year.

Luckily, we do not have to worry about who is winning or how many points are being scored. We are all over a player prop, Ball State quarterback Kiael Kelly over 59.5 rushing yards against the Golden Flashes.

Kelly has been fantastic on the ground during MAC play, averaging 64.3 yards on 19.8 carries per game in his first four conference matchups. He is the engine of this offense. Technically, running back Qua Ashley leads the team in rushing during conference play, but that number is inflated by a single 69-yard burst against Western Michigan. Without that, he would be averaging around 37 yards per game. That is why Kelly’s legs are the focus here.

Kent State vs. Kiael Kelly

Kent State’s defense has allowed teams to run all over, allowing over 213 rushing yards per game. Opponents have been running it down their throats, averaging 41 attempts per game with a 53% run rate. Even in MAC play, where that number dips to 140 rushing yards per game, it is worth noting that UMass, one of the worst rushing offenses in the country, drags that average down. Removing that matchup, the Golden Flashes are allowing 173 rushing yards per game.

Kelly is a dynamic dual-threat quarterback who can both sling the ball and take off at any moment. He averages nearly 25 pass attempts and 20 rushing attempts per game, serving as the heartbeat of this Ball State offense. The Cardinals lean heavily on the ground game, nearly 60% of their offensive plays come via the run, and Kelly is the driving force behind it.

Bonus Bets

I like Kelly so much in this spot that I also sprinkled on 2+ rushing touchdowns (+400) and 3+ rushing touchdowns (+2000). The prices were too good to ignore. I would not bother with 1+ at -145, as he has only scored a touchdown in three games, and the value is not there. The 2+ and 3+ plays are for fun, but for a quarterback who is always a threat to take one to the house, those odds are worth a look.

The Ball State quarterback has been a force in MAC play, averaging more than 64 rushing yards on nearly 20 carries per game. Kent State’s defense has struggled to contain the run all season, giving up over 213 yards per game, and Kelly’s dual-threat ability makes him a nightmare matchup. With Ball State running the ball nearly 60% of the time, Kelly should have plenty of opportunities to rack up yards. I am taking Kelly over 59.5 rushing yards, and sprinkling on 2+ touchdowns (+400) and 3+ touchdowns (+2000) for a little MACTION magic.

Best Bet: Kiael Kelly Over 59.5 Rush Yards (-114) odds via BetOnline
