Kansas vs. #9 Texas Tech Picks and Predictions: Jayhawks Head to Lubbock

Jalon Daniels and the Jayhawks head to Lubbock to take on the top 10 Red Raiders - Kansas Texas Tech Picks

Lance Leipold leads the Kansas Jayhawks down to Lubbock, Texas to face probably the best team in the Big 12. The Texas Tech Red Raiders, who just announced a logo rebrand starting next year (it’s hideous), are a top 10 team in the country and look to keep their perfect season going against an inferior Jayhawks team. Kansas always seems to find a way to beat themselves, whether it be dropping an easy game-ending interception at home, or simply not showing up against a rival, is there anyway they can pull off a miracle on the road? I certainly don’t think so, but we are backing them in some way with our favorite picks in this matchup.

Kansas Jayhawks vs. #9 Texas Tech Red Raiders NCAA Football Insights

The Jayhawks are 4-2 on the season and 2-1 in Big 12 play. After beating Fresno State and Wagner at their new stadium, they reignited The Border War with Missouri, losing in their trip to Columbia, 42-31. They bounced back and beat up West Virginia in their conference opener, should’ve beaten Cincinnati at home but lost on the final drive after multiple chances to end the game, but picked up a win over UCF down in Orlando last week. The offense is rolling, but there are some serious question marks regarding the defense, and facing the Red Raiders offense won’t be easy.

Texas Tech is 5-0 for the first time since Baker Mayfield lead the team back in 2013 and are the clear best team in the Big 12 in my eyes. While they started off with three easy wins over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Kent State and Oregon State, they had to go on the road for their first two conference bouts. The Red Raiders scored 34 and 35 in their road victories over Utah and Houston and currently sit with BYU, Arizona State and Cincinnati as the only undefeated teams left in the Big 12 (only the Cougars are also undefeated overall).

They can win their way into the Big 12 Championship and the College Football Playoff, but they can’t overlook this Jayhawk offense in the process.

Points, points, points! Look, the Jayhawks can’t stop anybody. They gave up nearly 600 yards of offense and 40 offensive points to the Missouri Tigers and allowed 603 and 37 points to Cincinnati. Although they won against UCF, they were still out gained on offense, giving up 375 total yards, including 20 first half points. I worry about how many Texas Tech would score.

Now, I looked at the Red Raiders’ team total, but convinced myself that the Jayhawks will at least contribute a little. If you’d rather, over 37.5 for their team total is certainly fine with me, but you could make a case that the Kansas offense is the toughest the Red Raiders have faced. Devon Dampier and Utah struggled to score against Texas Tech, despite scoring over 46 in their other four contests, so yes, the Jayhawks might be headed towards a similar result.

However, Kansas comes into this game more battled tested than the Utes, and I envision us only needing three scores from the Jayhawks to get over this number. You know what, maybe the Red Raiders TT is the play. You’re all smart, you can decide for yourself. I’ve already pressed the button on the full game over, which was my first NCAA Football bet of the week, so we ride with that!
