GA Southern vs. App St. – November 6
Fun Belt Thursdays are the best!
Tonight, we have another thrilling matchup loaded with offensive potential, as neither team has shown much resistance defensively. The Georgia Southern Eagles travel to Boone to take on the App State Mountaineers, with both teams looking to bounce back from a loss and grab a key conference win.
The Mountaineers enter this one as 5.5-point home favorites, with the total sitting in the low 60s, which suggests we should see plenty of points. My focus is on a player prop tonight: App State running back Rashod Dubinion to go over 66.5 rushing yards.
Georgia Southern’s Rush Defense
For those unaware, Georgia Southern has one of the worst run defenses in the entire country. They rank dead last in rushing yards allowed per game at 261.6 and second worst in yards per carry at 6.1. Even when they load up to stop the run, they simply cannot. Opponents average nearly 43 rushing attempts per game against them, as they sit in the bottom ten nationally in both opponent rush play percentage and rush attempts faced.
Dubinion, the former Arkansas back, flashed early in the season, going over this number in each of the first five games while averaging 122 rushing yards per game and topping 110 yards in three of them. Since his 98-yard performance against Oregon State, he has only cleared 50 yards twice. His volume has dipped in Sun Belt play, averaging just 13.75 carries per game and about 60 rushing yards. Remove his 95-yard outing against Southern Miss back on September 13, and that average drops to just 48 yards per game.
Get-Right Dubinion
Despite the recent decline, this feels like a get-right spot. The Mountaineers’ offensive identity still leans on exploiting matchups, and Georgia Southern’s run defense is the weakest one they will face all season. Yes, App State has leaned pass heavy this year, throwing the ball 57% of the time with around 33 rushing attempts per game, but game script should be in their favor tonight.
With App State losing two straight and often playing from behind, Dubinion’s volume has suffered. However, I expect the Mountaineers to control this game, build a lead, and lean on their run game to secure the win.
Georgia Southern struggles to stop rushers, giving Dubinion a prime opportunity to find his groove and cash his rushing prop. Expect App State to control the game early, continue leaning on the run to keep the Eagles off balance, and assert themselves on the ground for a strong offensive performance.
Best Bet: Rashod Dubinion Over 66.5 Rush Yards (-115) odds via BetOnline
