Two ranked Big 12 teams battle it out in Salt Lake City this Saturday as the No. 17 ranked Cincinnati Bearcats take on the No. 24 Utah Utes. While the hosts already have two conference losses this year, they are still in the top five of the league. Far from out of it if you ask me, especially considering the Big 12 just beats up on each other. Let’s get into our favorite picks to figure out if Cincinnati can keep their undefeated conference record going on the road.

Utah was a favorite to win the Big 12 prior to the season. However, after starting 3-0, they lost to the Texas Tech Red Raiders as field goal favorite. After that, they beat West Virginia and No. 21 Arizona State in dominating fashion. However, they had to go to BYU for The Holy War and lost to the Cougars. Last week, they bounced back by obliterating Colorado at home. Going into a bye week, they have a big one against the Bearcats.

Cincinnati is 7-1 this season, only losing to Nebraska in their opener at Arrowhead Stadium. They’ve won seven in a row since then, and five in conference play. On the road, they had a comeback win over Kansas and demolished Oklahoma State, which everyone seems to do this season. Now, against a ranked opponent on the road, will they be able to keep their winning streak alive?

Cincinnati vs. Utah Prediction: Utah Wins, Cincinnati Covers, Under 55

This is simply too many points for me. Now, this opened at a much lower number, closer to -7.5 in favor of the Utes, but has steamed in their direction across 10. Could that be a sign telling me the Utes figure it out and blow out the Bearcats? Probably. Do I know that the Big 12 always beats up on each other? Yes, I am very aware. And I do think Utah wins, but I see it being a low scoring game, letting the Bearcats hang within double digits.

Cincinnati is 6-2 against the spread this season, covering both times as an underdog (+6 vs. Nebraska and +5.5 against Kansas), and in all three away from home (previous two plus -24 at Oklahoma State). Now, Utah is a great team, ranking top 15 in third down conversion on both sides of the ball, but they might have their hands full with the Cincinnati offense.

The Bearcats are top 25 in points per game, top 20 in yards per pass (top five in interceptions thrown), and top 12 in yards per carry. Defensively they aren’t anything that special, but they run the ball over 55% of the time, leading me to think they try and chew up plenty of clock by putting together long drives. The Utes are much better in the secondary than the trenches defensively, and if Devon Dampier is on the sidelines, he can’t put up points.

Plus, Utah is also a heavy rushing team, doing so nearly 59% of the time. Look for this clock to keep on turning, Cincinnati to control the time of possession, and for it to stay way under, allowing the Bearcats to cover.
