The No. 25 ranked BYU Cougars head to Boulder in a rematch of last year’s Valero Alamo Bowl, where they took down the Colorado Buffaloes 36-14. Squads have changed quite a bit since that matchup last season, most notably both teams having brand new quarterbacks, as well as Colorado missing Heisman Winner Travis Hunter. Deion Sanders has stated that this is NOT a revenge game for the Buffs, but one can only thing he’s still salty about their bowl loss. Let’s break down this matchup and find our favorite picks.

#25 BYU Cougars vs. Colorado Buffaloes NCAA Football Insights

Kaidon Salter had 300 passing yards and three touchdowns against Wyoming last week
The Colorado Buffaloes are having a rough season… who would’ve guessed? They are 2-2 so far this year, with two cupcake wins. The Buffs beat Delaware and Wyoming.. congrats. But they lost at home to Georgia Tech (who is a very good team), and dropped a conference contest to Houston on the road. Now they have to try and get past a ranked Big 12 opponent at home, who has had plenty of success so far.
The Cougars come into this matchup 3-0 on the season. They beat Portland State (shut them out), Stanford, and most recently East Carolina. While none of those wins are particularly that great, they handled business and won every matchup in dominating fashion. Now, this won’t be their first road game, having gone to North Carolina to take on the ECU Pirates, and this isn’t the furthest travel spot either for the Cougars.
Can they keep it up in this week’s edition of the Big 12 After Dark?

I have been a known Colorado hater for a while now. Love the state, don’t get me wrong, but the hype surrounding the Buffalo football team has been unwarranted in my eyes. Sure, they (kind of) proved people wrong last season, but life has been rough after the departure of Hunter and Shedeur Sanders.
And I don’t see things getting any easier this weekend. The Cougars are a good football team, out to prove they can compete with the best in the conference, and most importantly, that last year’s 11-2 record wasn’t a fluke.
#25 BYU vs. Colorado NCAA Football Picks and Predictions

Back BYU’s running back to have a career game against Colorado
BYU vs. Colorado Prediction: BYU Wins and Covers, Over 49.5
Best Bet: LJ Martin (BYU) Over 96.5 Rushing Yards (-114) BetOnline
This line is MOVING. I am seeing up to 110.5 on some books, and I’d be comfortable up to triple digits, but don’t get crazy. There should be plenty of offense in this contest, at least from one side, and I’ll be backing the BYU running back to keep up his fantastic start.
LJ Martin has 16 carries for 88 yards and two touchdowns against Colorado in last year’s Alamo Bowl. But so far this season, he has triple digit yards in all three games, including doing so in as little as eight carries. He’s running for 8.6 yards per rush and despite only clearing in two games last season, this year is different.
BYU Quarterback Bear Bachmeier is not the rushing threat that Jake Retzlaff was, opening things up for the lead back in the ground game. Expect BYU to be up most of this game, and for them to absolutely pound the rock down Colorado’s throats. Plus, the Buffs couldn’t stop a nose bleed.
They gave up 112 rushing yards on 23 carries to Georgia Tech running backs, allowing nearly five yards per rush. Things weren’t any better against Houston, giving up 124 yards on 31 carries. The rushing defense has always been an achilles heel for the Buffs, and I see Martin taking full advantage on Saturday Night.
