Arkansas vs. #17 Ole Miss: Few things sting more in college football betting than a backdoor cover, and Ole Miss bettors know that pain all too well after last weekend. With the Rebels holding a double-digit lead late, Kentucky’s meaningless field goal in the final seconds flipped what should have been a winning ticket into a brutal beat.
Losses like that tend to stick, but they also create opportunities. Ole Miss now heads back home, where Lane Kiffin’s teams have traditionally been strong, and they get an Arkansas squad that has yet to be tested. On paper the Razorbacks’ numbers sparkle, but their competition says otherwise.

Arkansas vs. #17 Ole Miss – September 13
After getting our hearts ripped out by a meaningless last second field goal from the Kentucky Wildcats, which gave them the backdoor cover on Saturday, my spite bet of the week is on Ole Miss. The Rebels should have covered against that below average Kentucky squad. Should they have played better? Absolutely. But now that Ole Miss returns home, I believe they will be more prepared to dominate yet another mediocre SEC foe.
One of our sharp staff writers, Nate Hornung, is already on the Arkansas Razorbacks under 5.5 wins this season, so I feel even more confident about fading Sam Pittman’s squad. Be sure to check out his SEC preview. The season is still young, and it is worth reading before conference play gets into full swing.
Razorbacks First Test
This will be Arkansas’ first true road game and their first test against a legitimate opponent. Their opening two weeks came against Alabama A&M and Arkansas State, both blowouts by 40+ points.
On the other side, Ole Miss is coming off a sloppy road performance at Kentucky. As I mentioned earlier, they were up ten points in the final seconds before the Wildcats kicked a meaningless field goal to make it a seven point game. Rebels quarterback Austin Simmons threw two costly interceptions that both led to Kentucky scoring. Take away those mistakes, and the Rebels could have won by much more. Personally, I think Lane Kiffin will have his team ready to roll in their first SEC home game of the season.
Arkansas lost seven receivers and their top running back from last year. Their offensive line remains strong, but with so many new faces, this will be the real test of how good this unit is. Racking up over 550 total yards against Sun Belt and SWAC teams does not move the needle for me.
They now face a Rebels defense that returned only one starter from last year’s excellent unit, yet still held Kentucky under 150 passing yards and 172 rushing yards. If the Rebels can replicate that effort and the offense cleans up mistakes, they should be fine against an untested Arkansas squad.
Line Movement
This line originally opened at Ole Miss -12.5 on September 3rd, and has since dropped to 7.5 at some books. It may be smart to wait and see if it dips to seven or even 6.5, but I made my stand with Ole Miss -8.5. I think they win by double digits at home.
All in all, this feels like the perfect bounce back spot for Ole Miss. The Rebels were burned by turnovers and a meaningless field goal last week, but that should only sharpen their focus as they return home. Arkansas has yet to be tested, and while their numbers look impressive on paper, the competition level tells the real story. With questions surrounding their new offensive pieces and Lane Kiffin eager to set the tone in SEC play, I trust Ole Miss to control this matchup. I am comfortable laying the points and backing the Rebels to win convincingly.
