The Alabama Crimson Tide bring their No. 4 ranking and six game winning streak on the road as they face the South Carolina Gamecocks in Columbia this Saturday. Since losing to Florida State in their opener as two touchdown favorites, Kalen DeBoer has led his squad to six straight wins, covering the spread in five of six as well, with one push on the road in the other Columbia. South Carolina was once a National Champion dark horse, but losing four of your last five games with a 3-4 record to show for it won’t do much. They are done. But we’ve still got to dive into our favorite picks to see if they might be able to cover this double digit spread at home.

#4 Alabama Crimson Tide vs. South Carolina Gamecocks Hokies NCAA Football Insights

South Carolina started off 2-0 this year, but fell to 3-4 after a 1-4 start in five SEC games, only beating Kentucky at home. They’ve covered the spread in just three of seven games this year, and are 1-2 ATS as an underdog, failing to cover in two straight. The Gamecocks’ season is over, they have nothing to play for. But they can be an SEC spoiler. This is the first of three straight top 10 opponents, and the next two are on the road. Plus, they are in the middle of five straight top 15 contests, losing the other two games. Do they have the gumption to turn things around at home?
Alabama is cruising. One slight hiccup didn’t matter. Not only do they have six straight wins, the last four have been over ranked SEC opponents, as they sit at No. 2 in the conference, only behind Texas A&M (who is also 4-0 in the SEC, but 7-0 overall). Following this matchup, they have two ranked opponents coming to Tuscaloosa, but thankfully they have a bye week before hand.
Even on the road, their full focus should be on the task in front of them.

The Alabama defense gives up less than 18 points per game
Alabama vs. South Carolina Prediction: Alabama Wins and Covers, Under 47.5

Usually liking the favorite doesn’t correlate with the under, especially on the road, but I am completely out on South Carolina.
The Gamecocks are 5-2 to the under this season, and 3-1 at home. They are bottom 15 in the country in points per game, and are north of 100 (bottom 36) in third down conversion rate. Offensively, they simply don’t have it, especially against the Alabama defense. The Crimson Tide have gone under in three of their last four games and will be able to chew plenty of clock. I see them breaking out to a big lead early, and coasting in the second half. After all, a 31-10 Crimson Tide victory would get the job done for us.
Although the Gamecocks’ offense hasn’t lived up to expectations, their defense has carried the team. South Carolina’s defense ranks top 40 in yards and points per play, they arguably have a top 30 secondary, and the whole unit is top 30 in points per game allowed. Ty Simpson might have some trouble slinging the pill and moving the ball in chunks, but on the ground the Tide will control the trenches. Look for a boring, low scoring, quick Alabama victory that doesn’t sniff 40 points.
