#10 Florida State vs Georgia Tech Predictions

The Stank:

The Florida State Seminoles are entering Week 0 on a mission to redeem themselves after a strong season that ended in disappointment. Despite winning the ACC and going undefeated, they were left out of the College Football Playoffs. Now, they’re determined to prove they deserved a spot.

Florida State returns four starters on offense, four on defense, and two on special teams. These experienced players, along with the rest of the team, are highly motivated to make their case this season instead of dwelling on last year’s snub.

The Seminoles’ secondary and defensive line remain strong, and their offensive line is solid. However, much of their success this season—and in this game—will hinge on DJ Uiagalelei. While his time at Clemson had its challenges, he showed promise early on by leading the team to a victory at Notre Dame as a freshman when Trevor Lawrence was out with COVID. Although his tenure at Clemson wasn’t as memorable afterward, his lone season at Oregon State was productive. He threw for 2,638 yards, 21 touchdowns, and only seven interceptions—comparable to his final season at Clemson in 2022, but on 54 fewer attempts.

One concern about Georgia Tech is that, despite being a mediocre team, they’re in the top ten for returning players this season, including their starting quarterback, Haynes King. In an era where players frequently transfer, this stability suggests that the program is building something these players believe in—a crucial factor in sports. Belief and confidence can be dangerous, but I don’t see King leading Georgia Tech to an upset over the Seminoles.

Florida State should dominate and blow the doors off Georgia Tech. I’ll take the risky line in Week 0, but if it were any other week, I’d be more hesitant.

Prediction: Florida State Wins & Covers
