#2 Purdue Boilermakers vs. #8 Alabama Crimson Tide NCAA Basketball Insights

Labaron Philon leads the Tide in scoring with 23.5 points per game
Purdue beat Evansville in their opener but then struggled against Oakland, only winning by 10. Perhaps they were looking ahead to their first road contest against an Alabama team that will turn this game into a track meet. The Boilermakers will see Trey Kaufman-Renn on the court for the first time this season as he makes his debut, which immediately boosts an already loaded Boilermaker front court. This team has tons of experience, and they will rely on their veterans tonight on the road.
The Tide have already been tested, but playing the Johnnies was just the beginning of their early season gauntlet. This is the second of four straight ranked games for Alabama. After hosting Purdue, the Tide take on No. 14 Illinois and No. 19 Gonzaga, both of whom had ranked wins this week and might move into the top 10 in the country. Both of those games are on neutral sites, but they face the Illini in Chicago and the Zags in Las Vegas, so things may feel like a road environment, much like they probably did at MSG.
We are in for quite the treat with this matchup tonight.

My gut leans under, even though Alabama runs at the speed of light, both offenses are crazy good and the Tide can’t seem to defend too well. Purdue has the leadership and maturity to slow this game down, which is exactly what they want to do. However they are capable of keeping up if they have no choice but to run.
I looked at the Boilermakers’ team total over 85.5, but decided to hold off and take a player prop instead.
#2 Purdue vs. #8 Alabama NCAA Basketball Picks and Predictions

Trey Kaufman-Renn makes his season debut for the Boilermakers tonight on the road
Purdue vs. Alabama Prediction: Alabama Wins and Covers, Under 175
Best Bet: Trey Kaufman-Renn Over 6.5 Rebounds (-115) BetOnline
This is the man’s first game of the year. He is a senior leader on this team, and he will make an immediate impact. Kaufman-Renn led the Boilermakers with 6.5 boards per game last year. Sure, Oscar Cluff wasn’t on the team and Daniel Jacobsen didn’t play, but Kaufman-Renn does the dirty work for the team and cleans up the glass.
Last year against Alabama, the man had eight rebounds (and 26 points), and cleared in six of his last seven to close out last season. He also had at least seven boards in 8/10 ranked games away from home last year, proving he shows up when his team needs him. There are going to be plenty of shots in this game, especially from the Crimson Tide who have taken 58 and 81 total field goal attempts in their two games, resulting in 69 total missed shots. That sounds like tons of rebounds to go around.
Alabama’s front court still has plenty of question marks surrounding them, so I expect a senior leader for Purdue to bully them on the boards and snag at least seven rebounds for us tonight.
