After more than four months of thrills, spills, twists, and turns, only three weeks remain in the 2024-25 college basketball season. But the end of the season means the beginning of the Madness. March Madness, that is, as the brackets for the 2025 editions of the NCAA Division I men’s and women’s basketball tournaments are now set.
That means it’s now time to get your March Madness picks in, whether you are betting on the action or participating in one of the many March Madness bracket challenges out there.

Will Duke Outlast the Record-Breaking SEC for March Madness Glory?
In the men’s March Madness bracket, many eyes will be on the SEC, which received a record 14 March Madness bids, including the top overall seed in Auburn and a second #1 seed in Florida, who won the SEC tournament.
Many eyes will also be on Duke and their fantastic freshman Cooper Flagg. Flagg, who is the presumptive #1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, sprained his ankle in the ACC tournament quarterfinals and didn’t play again in Charlotte. It didn’t keep the top-ranked Blue Devils from winning a 24th ACC tournament title, however, and he should be available when Duke, the East Regional’s top seed, opens March Madness play on Friday in Raleigh.
As ever, there is much to debate about who made the field and who did not. North Carolina, San Diego State, Texas, and Xavier were the last four at-large teams in the field. West Virginia, Ohio State, Indiana, and Boise State were officially the first four teams out. The Mountaineers’ omission may be the biggest surprise, as ESPN’s final Bracketology update had WVU in the field as one of the last four byes.
Those whose teams were left out of the Big Dance will spend the coming days lamenting, but nationally, the conversation will quickly shift to who’s in and who will win.
Last year, the UConn Huskies won the program’s sixth national championship, as they defeated Purdue 75-60 in the championship game at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
After being the top overall seed in 2024, the Huskies are the #8 seed in the West Regional, which also features top seed Florida, as well as St. John’s, Kansas, and Arkansas, a trio of teams led by Hall of Fame coaches.

How many teams are in March Madness?
Since 2011, the NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament has featured a 68-team field.
This year will be the fourth year that the field for the women’s tournament also features 68 teams.
The 68 teams in the men’s March Madness bracket are grouped in four regions: East, Midwest, South, and West. Eight teams take part in the First Four, and the winners of the four First Four games move on to the 64-team first round.

Who has won the most NCAA Division I men’s basketball championships?
UCLA leads the way with 11 titles. Ten of those championships came under legendary coach John Wooden in a 12-season span between 1964 and 1975, with the other coming in 1995.
Kentucky is second on the list with eight, with the most recent of their titles coming in 2012.
UConn and North Carolina (most recent title in 2017) are next with six, while Duke (most recent title in 2015) and Indiana (most recent title in 1987) have five.
Kansas, who most recently cut down the nets in 2022, is the only other men’s program with four or more national titles.
