#19 Gonzaga vs. Arizona State Prediction & Best Bets (Nov. 14): No Letdown for the Zags in Tempe?

Graham Ike and Gonzaga take on the UCLA Bruins in Seattle on Saturday Night - UCLA Gonzaga Picks

Through the early going of the college basketball season, one of the best starts belongs to Gonzaga, who will look to avoid a letdown tonight vs. Arizona State (11:00 p.m. ET, ESPN2).

The Bulldogs (3-0) already own two convincing wins over notable opponents, and while last Saturday’s 83-68 win over Oklahoma may not have made major waves, Tuesday’s 90-63 rout of No. 23 Creighton certainly did.

Tonight, the Bulldogs will look to keep rolling as they hit the road for the first time. The Sun Devils, meanwhile, will have their first challenging contest of the season after dispatching Southern Utah and Utah Tech.

Much like last night’s Cal vs. Kansas State matchup was for Dai Dai Ames, tonight’s Gonzaga vs. Arizona State matchup will be a return to familiar pastures for Adam Miller.

After stops first at Illinois and LSU, Miller played the past two seasons at Arizona State, averaging 12.8 PPG two seasons ago and 9.8 PPG last season.

After electing to move on to a fourth school for his final collegiate season, Miller has done his part to help the Bulldogs start 3-0, averaging 10.7 PPG through three games.

Will Miller come up big tonight in Tempe against his former team? Read on for our Gonzaga vs. Arizona State prediction and best bets, as well as the best odds from top online sportsbooks such as BetOnline.

Gonzaga vs. Arizona State Prediction and Best Bets

Prediction: Gonzaga to win

Fast starts are not uncommon for Gonzaga, but after receiving their lowest March Madness seed since 2016, being eliminated before the second week of the tournament for the first time since 2014, and losing three starters and multiple key depth pieces, it was imperative for the Bulldogs to begin this season well.

And they have done just that. They blew away Texas Southern by 55 points (98-43), cruised past Oklahoma by 15 (83-68), then bulldozed Creighton by 27 (90-63).

Graham Ike (17.3 PPG, 10.7 RPG, 2.7 APG) is off to a strong start with three consecutive double-doubles. Against Creighton, he had 20 points and 10 rebounds and made 8 of 10 shots, including all four outside attempts. Ike has taken only 72 threes in 118 career games, but he has already taken eight this season. If he continues to shoot them fairly regularly while making them at a decent clip, it can only benefit the Zags in the long run.

Gonzaga enters tonight’s matchup vs. Arizona State with five other players averaging at least 9.7 PPG. As a team, they are shooting 50.5% from the field. The only thing that isn’t an overall strength so far is outside shooting. In three games, they have made just 31.0% (22 of 71) of their threes.

Improvement must come in that area, but even if more triples don’t fall tonight, an upset is highly unlikely.

There is some potential with this Sun Devils team, especially if 7’1” freshman Mor Massamba Diop can build off of his impressive start (14 points and five rebounds vs. Southern Utah and 18 points and six rebounds vs. Utah Tech).

But they are not quite ready for this battle, and Gonzaga should pass its first road test with a fourth consecutive win.

Gonzaga vs. Arizona State Best Bets

1) Arizona State Team Total Under 73 (-115 at Bovada)

I’m not touching the spread on either side, even if I think Gonzaga should win by double digits. And while a few plays pique my interest, none besides this one are worth the investment.

After three consecutive strong defensive performances by Gonzaga, I’m using one of my allocated unders for the month on them to keep it tight on that end again vs. Arizona State. At KenPom, the Sun Devils are projected to reach 74 points, and I think they will do well to reach 70.
