A matchup that I have had circled since Friday is Central Arkansas at North Texas. For anyone wondering why I care about this mid-major spot, the answer is simple. This is a massive bounce back opportunity for the Mean Green. They are coming off scoring 49 points in an 80 to 49 loss at Saint Marys nearly a week ago. Now they return home to the comfort of their own arena, hosting a bottom feeder. This is a chance for North Texas to get right.

Line Movement

The line opened at 16.5 in favor of the Mean Green. It dropped as low as 14.5, but has since climbed back to 16. I grabbed North Texas at 16.5 once it posted. The advanced metrics project the Mean Green to win this game by 20. Are those projections perfect? No, and neither am I, but they support my read.

Central enters on a two game losing streak. They are coming off a loss against Samford on Sunday and a massive blowout at Arkansas. Through 4 games, the Bears are ranked as the fourth worst team in college basketball according to Bart Torvik. They sit at 351st in offense and 361st in defense. They are flat out putrid. The one worry is their willingness to let it fly. They are 70th in three-point rate, but also the third worst team in three point percentage. They are essentially throwing prayers.

Get Right Mean Green

North Texas always hangs its hat on defense, and this season is no different. They have held 4 of their 5 opponents under 66 points. They own a top 55 defense that has struggled with fouling and rebounding, but they excel at forcing turnovers, blocking shots which ranks 2nd in the country, and protecting the paint.

Coming off back to back losses, returning home should be a breath of fresh air for this North Texas team. I expect their offense to settle back into a rhythm with the familiarity of their home floor. This is a program that is consistently efficient from deep, and they sit at 92nd in three point shooting.

I have to be on North Texas in this spot. I do not mind the over, but I believe the Mean Green offense finds a serious groove against a Bears defense that ranks near the bottom in every relevant category. This is the exact kind of matchup where North Texas can reset, settle in, and show what their ceiling actually looks like when shots start to fall. If the Mean Green build an early lead, I expect them to keep their foot down and let this one snowball. This is a get right night, and the matchup script lines up perfectly for it.
